The Brownlow Medal - 2008

Maybe not but Ablett clearly didn't get votes every time he should have. I saw the R22 game and he clearly deserved at least 2 votes and got none.

I agree that he misses votes probably because he is seen to pick up soft posessions running around the back of players with free kicks, handballs more than he kicks, misses easy goals and is bald.

That said in round R22, Ling with 34 posessions including 20 kicks and a shut down job and Johnson with 28 disposals and six goals were fighting were BOG for mine, leaving the one vote for Gablett, Bartel or Selwood who all played well.

So much for the best player in the comp, Cooney can't even win his own club's B&F. ;D

Yes I know Ablett beat Bartel last year. ;)

very true oldie, I think the Brownlow should be re-named the best Midfield player award, if you don't play in there you have two chances of winning the medal. Buckleys and None. :P

Geelong have too many bald players. The umps can't be sure who gets the possessions. From a distance they all look a bit similar. Hence Junior misses a brownlow. twice

Shaved heads is the modern day bartlett comb over. They're not fooling anyone.

Looks like the Geelong brains trust agree with the umpires.......gablett jnr is only second best.

"GEELONG star Gary Ablett has been beaten for yet another award this season, with his midfield teammate Joel Corey taking out the Cats' best-and-fairest last night. Corey polled 591 votes to claim his second "Carji" Greeves medal ahead of last year's winner Ablett (538) and 2007 Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel (522)........................................"

Perhaps Corey was robbed of the brownlow then seeing as Ablett was couldn't beat him in his own B&F ToO. ;D

Yeah he's been the bridesmaid a few times now.

Leysy's got a theory on B & F's. In general he believes coaching staff can tend to favour players that get the most out of themselves rather than talented guys that who might have the same or greater impact but the panel believe may have more to "give".

Goodes is a go great player but no way did he deserve that many votes in the brownlow. The umpires do love him.

But it also shows leysy's earlier point perfectly. He averaged the 7th most possessions, 3rd most goals, 3rd most clearances, 6th most contested touches & 6th most 1&'ers.

Whilst he was well down on previous years & didnt deserve to be in the running to win it, the coaching panel have clearly penalised him for not playing to his potential rather than his actual influence & output.

Adam Goodes - 21 votes in the Brownlow..
Didn't finish TOP TEN in his own team's B&F count.

If that doesn't raise serious questions about the umpires votes......................
