Re: Does The Caretaker Know He Has The Gig?

I must admit, I was never the biggest fan of Campbell as a player but...

As a coach he has a lot of potential. He's an extremely smart guy and despite his limited time as an assistant is highly regarded in football circles. A lot of people aren't Campbell fans due to his request to be traded at the end of the '98 season. Remember though, Campbell didn't want to leave because he wanted more money. We requested to be traded because he didn't agree with the way the club was being run. I know some may say it's a bit gutless, but, as a player you can and are allowed to only have so much influence on how a club is run. We have seen this recently with the Newman saga.

Had those at the time in charge of the club had Campbell's forsight, maybe the last 10 years would've actually been successful.

I have to agree. He was class. Measured. Smart. Articulate with equanimity. All unusual and perhaps novel qualities at Tigerland as well as being a dolly boy metro haircut-centric before the look became de rigeur. He lacked mongrel, but so did Royce not that I'm even considering Campbo in that Pantheon class.

However, he would get a game in any Tiger side in any era. He was not well understood, but he was a champ. I hope he gets the gig.

Soft dud. Couldn't kick. Haircut just appalling.

Looked (and stood) like a girl back in the mid-90s.

Re: Does The Caretaker Know He Has The Gig?

from what David King said in the players club room before the game, none of the assistants have even been given a hint!

That could also mean that the selected assistant does know, but isn't him!

nervous about campbell

but........

I think we can all rest assured that he loves the club and would do qnything to make us succeed.

Tony Free on the other hand....big big problem

Realistically, I don't think we should be nevous about any interim coach. They will not get the gig next year short of winning a flag this year, which I can't really see us doing.

The interim coach will surely not be able to do any more damage than has already been done.

He played 297 games of league footy, winning 4 best and fairests and I think was elected all-Australian on 3 times. Soft? Fair dinkum you are an ..... .
