A short lunch break saw me walk into a local bookshop where I spotted Emma Quayle's finally released book
The Draft - Inside the AFL's search for talent.
We've been waiting a year for this one. I suppose, for Emma, it's been longer.
Haven't read it yet but the photo opposite the opening page of the Preface captures it all. A photo of Trent Cotchin & Cyril Rioli, in Vic & NT guernseys, arm in arm at the U12 Schoolboy Championships.
Says it all about the best junior talent being so from a young age, playing together or against one another, year after year, with some boys dropping off due to injuries.
Promises plenty. Look forward to reading it.
