Three and a half wins is not and never will be acceptable, especially when we need to re-build a winning culture at this club.
The Geelong massacre really exposed the horrible truth for us all.
From that point, we'll hopefully now address better than ever before our recruiting, list management, player development and coaching. If one thing can be achieved from this year, I hope that lesson has been properly learned and understood.
The last four weeks, we've seen better performances and we may have some younger players that can really play - Foley is a star rover and deserves all Australian Selection while Delidio, Tambling, Thursfield, Connors and Edwards all look like quality AFL players. Other young players like King, Pattison and Mcguane show promise, although their kicking skills must improve if they are to reach elite level status.
Jury is still out on Riewoldt, Hughes, Oakley-Nicholls and some others - but we really need some to come through. Our past recruiting record tells me that not all will succeed.
Polak has been a good trade recruit although next year he has to be played and preform as an accountable CHB.
Look forward to Brown playing a full season in 2008 and Simmonds and Coughlan returning well from injury.
However this trade and draft period is vital if we're to fast track our path to recovery. 8-10 delists/trades is what is required - let's not kid ourselves with the quality (or lack thereof) of our playing list.
Aside from the four already gone, it's goodbye to Krakouer, Hartigan, Schulz, Hyde, and at least a couple of others. The future is brighter after the last few weeks, but let's not hope for success, let's make it happen.
