The Engine Room

Look one of the lacks on the weekend was the midfield tag. Kirk almost died from an overdose of leather poisoning last weekend. We don't have a run with player coming through. Wallace has been using Chaffey and now Johnson to fill the role. While Polo did play that role on Williams, playing it on Williams is a whole lot different to trying to keep Kirk out of the game.

We need a really effective tagger/scragger to help neutralise the Kirk's and Wests of the game or Edwards if we are discussing next week. Without a good tagger we are going to look like last week, stunned mullet with no answer to the player which has bobbed up and is hurting us the most.

Foley should be played for a full game

I agree..... every week he racks up possies in the square but then spends the majority of the game on the pine... I would like to see him go 3/4-full game in the guts and let him do what he does best. Last week he had 3 clearances in a row...his kicking wasnt super but he did hit richo lace out one of those times....The time is now to let the kids have a crack. I know he is small but he still seems to be unfazed by it and most importantly still gets the pill....a peter bell type.

This week:

Newman McGuane Hartigan
Raines Bowden Polo
Tivendale Coughlan Hyde
Deledio Richo Tambling
Krak Simmo Pettifer

R. Knobel, Foley, Tuck

I. Bowden, Hughes, Jackson, Meyer

Possibly.....
In: Knobel, Meyer - god sake give him a run...there a guys who are playing who have done less than Danny.
out: Stafford, JON

Since I am mad (crazy) enough to head over to Telstra dump this weekend...I want to see more aggresion from the boys. I don't care about the score because I actually expect to lose, I just want them to make Adelaide blows...sorry, crows...to earn it. A little jumper hold isn't a tackle, I want to see opposition players hit hard and thumped into the ground. I would like to see a few hard hits. I know they are young but geez they are strong enough to play AFL aren't they? Put some physical pressure on 'em boys at least show them we aren't just there to make up numbers.

If you watch the replay of this game you will notice that alot of the bounces went the Swans way(WHY?). Another point I noticed was Jolly running over the Rucking line and blocking Simmo's path. Unfortunately their midfielders had a armchair ride compared to ours who were Man handled at various times. The Swans were up to the old holding tricks and this weeks umpires didn't seem to give a stuff. This is not an excuse for the performance, but it certainly didn't help!

Round 1 the Swans would have been pinged for their scragging tactics! I think the Swans sensed that the umpires have eased of a bit on these so called new rules.

Ask yourself this, how many times did you see a jumper held or player scragged during this game?
I was screaming this out whilst I watched the game regarding the swans scragging and just about every time one of our players even looked at a swans player they got a free kick. The umpires were pathetic, and now I'm being kind. :vomit

Oakley-Nicholls tried this in the first quarter and looked like he hurt himself, hardly saw him the rest of the day. At least he tried it which I like but just not big enough at the moment. Those that are big enough I agree however should be more aggressive. Intimidation is a crucial part of the game I reckon, see what having Barry Hall in the area did to Patrick Bowden last week when he shat himself and gave that disgraceful effort (even with no one around him), it does make a difference. Brisbane made an art form of it and won 3 flags and were runners up once. It is something that needs to be brought into our game I agree.
