The first Chief Executive of Football for Richmond will be....

Wouldn't surprise me. Wallace would have been concerned that Pelchen would undermine his objective of trading away our early picks for pencil armed flankers.
Very good Ridley

Can someone please explain what the football manager does? and is expected to do in his new role?

Also there appears to me to be some confusion as to the role of the different players under the new structure which is due in no small part to the fact that March himself has been somewhat confused as to whether Terry and his footy manager would sit with Cameron, Wright and Jackson on a list management committee, or would simply submit their requests when asked to do so.

Unfotunately, that now seems to have been resolved in favour of Terry etc being part of the group, but what remains unclear is who makes the final call. Is it a majority thing or is the final decision to be one for Cameron.

Personally I'd have Terry attend meetings with Cameron, Wright and Jackson on an ad-hoc basis, and as an invited guest only.

"Thanks for your advice Terry. We will think about it and let you know the decision as soon as we can".

Essentially CEO of football operations, with Wallace, Cameron, and the medical and fitness heads reporting to him.

Nothing March has said has been contradictory, there has only been confusion in the minds of journalists who clearly need an intelligence transplant.

No Ian, asking about the present football manager not the CEO.

As for Terry being a member of the list management committee, you are right it is difficult to sort through what the journalsts have been saying and it is pretty clear that some major leakage is coming from Terry's camp. eg that little pearl in Wilsons article yesterday about Gary wanting to reduce the proportion of spending on players salary under the TPP.

Also, I still prefer what I understood was Gary's initial position which was that Terry's advice would be sought and considered, rather than having him sit on as a 'committee' member.

In other words I wouldn't let him near the decision making phase at all.

It is a good question M.

The footy manager would deal with the day to day issues relating to the current playing list, injury management, dealing with doctors, travelling arrangements, being a conduit between fitness & medical to the coach. It sounds a bit wishy washy but Paul Armstrong is very good at his job.

The new role being filled is more of a CEO role that would encourage all departments to drive innovation, set KPI's, budgets..all those wanky corporate things, but most of all be the go between for the board/CEO to the footy department.

What is Armstrong's title/position then?
Football Manager

The new role will be Director of Football or GM of Football or some other lofty title.

Schwab has pulled out of the race...dropping like flies.

Seems like Corcoran is actually still in the race contrary to other reports.

Corcoran is the only one left how I feel really good about.

Please don't be the bloke from Skippy Land.

Wouldn't be suprised if someone comes out of left field for this position.

Kevin Sheedy for one knows how to keep a secret.

The other unknown would have to be the guy that just resigned as CEO of the Aust Sports Commission. Don't know his name but Peter Bartel gave him a big wrap for his work at the ASC.

Don't worry folks, we will get a good person in that role. Afterall, if P Schwab was really the man we wanted, we would have done everything possible to get him, not just let him walk away. Clearly he wasn't the man we wanted.
