The first Chief Executive of Football for Richmond will be....

Not sure we can knock Harrington without knowing his style, plans nor being part of the interview process.

He might not be a sexy appointment but could also well be the best man for the job.

I've got a couple of friends high up at North.Know his style.

Please, do tell.

I don't really want to slander him on a public forum mate.Particularly if he is likely to be or man.

I just don't think he is very professional, just call it my opinion.

No probs Evo.

I don't know a lot about Harrington, so I'm just trying to get some info on him. Norths list isn't in bad shape though, do you know how much of their current staus he would be responsible for?

Well that really gets down to the ever present debate of who 'owns' the list--the coach or the footy director.

It's both really.

On a purely objective basis do you get the sense that perhaps North list looks ok as a top 8'er but hasn't really got the right structure for a premiership list? I do.

I could easily see them falling away in the next year or so when Harvey,Grant,Simpson and Thompson hang up the boots.

Making the 8 isn't what it's about, it's long term list building that covers all areas and gives a descent window--like Geelong are having and like Hawthorn will have.

North doesn't look well set in that regard in my view and could easily be back to bottom 4 in the near future.

I will not be surprised if one of the candidates that had supposedly withdrawn from the process is appointed next week.

Would that mean two Schwabs have enjoyed playing hard to get this year? :hihi

It's frustrating trying to find anything out about Tim Harrington. All I've been able to find out is easily documented stuff like he started as a Assistant Coach at North, became their acting football manager and then moved into his current position of List Manager at North.

Some people like to trot out the Hay and Thompson trades and the like but i don't think that is neccesarily clear cut. Coaches have big influences on those sort of things in most cases (look at Wallace and Frawley's history influencing our recruiting).

His current role is very similar to CC at Punt Rd. Harrington manages the club’s TPP structure, list profile and salary cap while also overseeing the recruiting department.

So like Pelchen this would be another promotion type appointment.

Though he has sort of done a Football Manager type role before at North in a acting capacity. When Carey and Pagan left North he filled in as a acting footy manager and North went through a quiet restructuring in the background.

As you can imagine it was a fairly bleak time with the Carey saga and loosing Pagan in the same year.

Peter Schwab is a big fan of the re-structuring the Roos did in 2002 and Harrington was a part of the team that oversaw/implemented that.

The normal corporate recruitment process applies here. Short list of 6 on the sure bet that on interview some candidates become less attractive or select out when they realize the demands of the job are beyond their capability or interest. If the selection process is a good one, and March would know that, the remaining candidates are still a good match so it is not a case of 3rd, 4th or 5th pick so long as the short list is a good one, number 6 should be just as suitable as number 1. Remember the war for talent applies to all sectors not just on the playing field

Another embarrassing off field bungle.......miller was sacked and march said at time we want to to act early so everything is in place by october......we are still waiting
our players are starting to get it right but not the admin side.

It's only the first week in September. If March said all will be in place by October, the least we can do is wait until October before berating him for not having completed the process when he said he would.

Plus, according to the other rumours he's also busy interviewing coaches for next year, and assistant coaches.

I think he meant we sack miller in july...install new ceo in august and he consults with coaching staff re draft and list prospects and needs.
Why was Miller sacked mid season and disrupted our finals campaign when we still have not made an appointment two months later.
Is March our new dictator????

We have our man....will be announced next week....i'm sure everyone will be happy with the appointment ;)
