In 2023 13 players will be over 30+ years old
Stanley 32 Tuohy 33 Cameron 30 Smith 34 Selwood 35 Duncan 32 Rohan 32 Hawkins 35 Menegola 31 C Guthrie 31 Dangerfield 33 Stewart 30 Blicavs 32
Thats a lot of geriatrics for 1 side
AFL will have to make sure they only have afternoon games so it doesn’t go past their early bedtime

Let's see if they can stick to consistency as WC, WB and Melb haven't as far as flags go. We have.

Geelong changed perceptions on how lists are built. It can win flags.

You can top up with best 22 players over 28, you don’t need a stack of picks inside 18, you do need picks inside 20-50 that find top tier talent from that draft class and you must find a way to get top tier free agent talents over the line.

The Hopper & Taranto strategy just got another tick.

100% you don't need 5 picks every year
You need a blend of ready/roll players and kids coming through..
Lambert Pickett Broad Townsend Bulter Castagna all quality pick up's and we didn't need 1st rounders.

As tigertim said the old age moniker is meaningless. Lee used to post stats all the time that older teams were strongly favoured to win

Watching today, aside from how the Cats built their list and the luck you need to have all those old guys fit and healthy, the thing that struck me was how unbelievable they setup behind the ball. Structure, strategy and discipline.
Well done to them

This does work if you are already a contender as they were. problem Clubs have is they go this path to become a contender ala St K/Ess/Carl recently & that is when it fails. In our case it's fine because of where we have been.

Smithy would have to be the oldest Smithy medal winner ever? Bloody good effort for a Ballarat boy.

Yep if the older teams get on the park they win way more than they lose. That’s the dice Geelong rolled and they didn’t have anyone injured come gf day. Good management but also good luck. We had edwards fall off a cliff, lambos’ hips expire and grimes’ and Prestias’ hamstrings ping.

Getting Jeremy Cameron was the masterstroke.
He played yesterday Like he did in 19. He made a huge difference to there game style.
We haven't beaten them with him in the side.
The difference is Stengle The Viking Atkins Henry.
They don't drop marks and they move like Gazelles.
The best pick up in the last 20 year's is lynch.
2 year's 2 flags
