During the pre game entertainment people raised the glow sticks in the air when the MCG lights were turned off. I was sitting front row level 4 and within about 2min they were been hurled from level 4 onto the bottom level and onto the ground.

Anyone else see this? Thoughts?

Pretty dangerous. Wont be seeing glowsticks at a game again :hihi

Thought it was bloody stupid on two fronts
1. that every moron was throwing them, some from the top tier, if they had have hit a little kid they would have done some serious damage.
2. the organisers, maybe it looked good with the lights off but after the debacle we ahve with the mex wave surely the thought that someone would have thrown one would surely have gone through their pin heads

pity so many idiots and sheep go to the footy!!

I was at the end of the Essendon cheer squad, a few were thrown, but on the other end of the ground there was hundreds on the oval and i couldnt imagine what it would of been like.

I was sitting on the second tier and they were being thrown all around the ground but the idiots in the top tier who couldn't make the distance and were landing them in the crowd ....... these pinheads should be banned for years.

How bloody stupid was it hey! I too was in the front row of the Great Southern Top Tier behind the goals and one actually hit my wife in the side of the head. It didn't tickle i can tell you. I can only imagine how it would feel if it had dropped another 3 tiers and hit people on the bottom. They were hitting those chairs pretty hard.

The AFL must never allow these rubbish sticks again. There was word that a couple of weeks ago when the Tribut (State) match was on, the people actually on the ground were digging the flaming sticks into the ground!

On a side point though, while i didn't find it funny watching the glow sticks fly, i did however find it funny when a ball Richmond kicked in warm up went over the netting and absolutely smashed a beer that a woman was holding. She was crying for a good 5 minutes and then left i think. It may sound harsh, but what are these people doing? They are there to watch the footy, i know i do. But some don't and then they get hit by a ball, and sue the AFL, or whinge that it's dangerous! Just watch the bloody footy and you won't get hit!! Simple

Was sitting up above Gate 1, top level (whatever that stand is called). Chick threw a glow-stick off the top, coppers came and gave her a spray. I would've kicked her out.

Didn't discourage anyone else from doing it though, and the cops disappeared in quick time.

If it was a guy, maybe another punishment......
I guarantee that if i throw something off the top deck and i get caught, i would be thrown out! And so you should be

Another stuffup by those legends at AFL house.
There was a song and dance about the selected few at the state game dropping the sticks on the ground so Dimi and Joylene decide it will be fun to give thousands of the things to anyone that wants one, some people had a dozen or more.
Obvious outcome the dickheads start chucking them off the top deck, would have been hell to pay if someone turned round at the wrong moment and copped a pointy stick in the eye.

With the footy's coming over the net, if I ever got hit with one and it was taped and went on funniest home video, all I would want is a cut of the winnings because it would probably be really funny. It would hurt, but would be funny ! :rofl

LOOK OUT!

it was stupid but gee they looked pretty:):)...and it seemd to me the majority of the ones on the ground were smack bang in front of our cheer squad....

but why ban glo sticks? ban the people that throw things.....

must say..my kids were highly entertained by all the glo sticks flying though the air..but we sit in the olympic stand and dont seem to have the "bogan" mentality as much as the southern stand ( sorry to you non bogans in the southern stand..including my brother)

least it wasnt sparklers :):)

Absolute morons from both sides.

Glow sticks were not meant for throwing, there were plenty thrown at the Tiger end, it could have been dangerous if you got hit near the eye.

one lady I saw was holding her head as she was walking out? She appeared hurt, not sure if it was the result of these sticks?

And the boguns who make these stupid decisions are the guys who run OUR game.

A1 and A2 are absolute jokes as administrators

how the heck can you blame the administrators for the actions of the people in the crowd...blame the "adults" who threw them or the parents of the kids who threw them..this is something that cant be blamed on anyone else but the person who threw the stick....

if that is the case then blame the powers that be for throwing things in the mexican wave at the cricket.....its idiots who throw things that spoil it for others.....minoirty always ruins things for the majority..why should my kids not be allowed to wave their glo sticks at a game....they looked fantastic

good point Ronni. People are responsible for their own actions. Whats next? ban (meat)pies or chips at the footy because some clown might throw them.

I was one bay over from this 'incident' and there was a good explosion of beer (?) when the ball landed! I then noticed an MCG official over talking to them. I thought someone must have been injured.

As you say, just watch the ball (especially if you choose to sit directly behind the goals!).
