it seems you agree on the cause but not the method of cleaning out the duds.doesnt it strike you as funny that every other side going thru rebuild have ruthlessly got rid of underachievers. we are the odd men out. on this point we will always disagree because if we got rid of the duds we would spend the neccesary time required at the bottom to get the out and out quality we need. port brisbane and geelong will all finish above us next yr and i reckon essendon would be a good chance also.

no i dont think we would. i dont think we will with them either.. the thing is getting rid of them allows a kid a chance even late picks work out look at raines.keeping them means kids are not in our system thus it means it takes us longer to develop our list.im totally against keeping players just because they might win us a few games in the short term.long term they kill us and cost us the opportunity of finding  decent players. look all things being equal lets say haw rich ess carl bris all enter a rebuild phase at the same time over say 3 or 4 drafts.and if all recruiters do their jobs and we spend just one draft below the others common sense says over this period of time the other teams are going to end up with more quality players. from the base we started at one good draft just wont cut the mustard. cut krakouer hall tivendale draft some more kids and with a bit of good planning and luck we might find one player who will be able to take us somewhere because as sure as my arse points to the ground we are going nowhere with these types of players.they are simply not good enough.

So you would ditch every established player not of premiership standard, draft youngsters and drop back to the bottom to get another good set of draft picks? I thought Tango explained things well, i.e. that list management is a balancing act. Cutting too many experienced players for low draft picks just slows/stalls your development as you'll still have your share of 'duds' - only young rather than old. And young duds don't contribute as much as experienced duds.

nowhere have i said get rid of all players below premiership standard.in fact i dont even know what that statement means. you have players who have the potential to improve and improve your team in the long run. we keep finishing bottom 8 because our more senior players arent up to it. you have to identify what the problems are to fix the engine. many clubs have dropped back down the ladder to fix a problem in recent times most of them have fallen out of the 8. if we drop to the bottom 4 i wouldnt really look at it as dropping just stagnating.
anyway if you want to play ducks and drakes with my quotes fine but you damn well knew what i meant.

I was not sure what you meant which is why I began with a question. Yes several clubs have dropped back and rebuilt with good youngsters, but we have not been good/lucky enough with our drafting in the past to get the right players. Are you saying you have confidence in the current football department to pick the right youngsters or do you simply think taking a gamble by starting from an almost-clean slate is better than the current situation, even if it fails? IMO it is likely we will slip a few positions in 2007 as things are now.

Experienced 'duds' know how to get the best out of their ability, or very close to it, and have presumably reached a certain level of professionalism in preparation, attitude and conduct which rubs off almost subconsciously on the younger players. Some sort of age/experience balance of the list is essential.
