The importance of a Good Showing This Week

I believe that this weekend is of vital importance to our club. We need to show that our new found confidence and attacking, pressurised game plan can stand up against a good opposition. More importantly I think is important that the players continue to give 100% and don't fall back into lazy habits. In reality, all we have done so far is beat an awful Freo and draw against the Dogs (who remember lost their last 7 games last year by sizeable margins).

I remember back to 2006 when we had some groundbreaking victories against Geelong (first win at KP for about 15 years), Port (first win against them at Footy Park) and Adelaide (first win against them in years) and yet we copped 3 100 point floggings and one by 90+, showing that we really had not progressed at all (which was confirmed last year).

This weekend (and following weeks against good opposition) we have a chance to prove that we are on the improve. I am looking forward to the challenge our boys face, yet am still a little fearful of what they may serve up.

I agree PP about a good showing this week, and every week, but especially against the competitions benchmarks - Geelong and probably the Hawks. We may lose, but we need to be seen to have a real crack.

Despite the disappointment of the 100 point beltings back in 2006, I didn't mind so much because I think inconsistency is understandable from a young list with a new coach. But now, with maturity and experience, consistency is something that we should begin to expect.

Overall you are right PP, but we really need a good showing no matter who we play.

We are playing more kids so there will be ups and downs, as long as they learn and improve. I am not fearful of anything if the kids are getting game time.

Disagree with the Freo bit, even though they are a joke, they are normally hard to beat at home, and we thrashed them which was great.

The Dogs are a quality opponent also who you don't want to treat lighty, so I am happy with what we have served up for these two games.

On the last point you are correct, we don't need to go into our old ways, and hopefully game time will instill confidence and finally a winning culture to these kids.

Couldn't agree more, a good showing any time is required. My main point was that we haven't really achieved anything yet, and while there are some good signs, we have seen them before and they have not been built upon. I am hoping (I guess along with every supporter) that this recent improvement grows into something big, and this week is the start of it against a quality opponent. Not expecting a win, but 100 minutes of sustained effort that we can be proud of.

Absolutely. I have been impressed with our recent sudden desire to put pressure on opponents. I will be happy if we keep up the tackling and one percenters which have really shown through the last 2 weeks.

But I expect a win in the next couple of games. We have to really cement what appears to be some new found self belief.

Got to agree. I would hate to see a blowout game, we must sustain the improvement shown over the last few weeks.

No one gave us a chance against Freo over there or the Dogs and we won one of them and drew the other. This is the same. I'm undecided if I had a choice between being able to beat Hawthorn or the Saints who I'd rather win against.

My Vision:

Hawthorn 7.5.47 def Richmond 2.4.16
Hawthorn 12.8.80 def Richmond 6.8.44
Hawthorn 14.10.94 def Richmond 10.13.73
Hawthorn 19.13.127 def Richmond 10.15.75

Best: (Haw) Mitchell, Bateman, Franklin
(Rich) Foley, Richardson, Deleidio

Goals: (Haw) Franklin 6 Williams 3 Roughhead 3
(Rich) Richardson 3 Edwards 2

I'd be happy taking a Qtr off them. Especially the Premiership Qtr!!

I'd like to beat the Hawks but I think we will beat the Saints.

The Tiges need to put in every week regardless of the result.
Learn from winning and losing and then take it into the following game, the only way to improve.
I think the Hawks will be tough but we are a chance as they are due to drop one 'easy' game, and so are the Cats they too are due to drop one and then the Saints, well it's time to get them for the NAB cup loss which put PRE in a panic.

I said it last week but I believe it more this week that this is the game we have to show where we are at.

Hawks are good at pressure and tackling, we have to be better.

With heaps of rain to fall, we need our toughest players to show the way.

Pressure and tackling was good last week against a side that historically have been freewheelers (although the Dogs do seem better this year). To do it again this week for the full 100 minutes against a quality opposition will indicate that there is something more substantial building at the RFC than just another one or two week wonder (which we have seen plenty of over the years).
