The Importance Of a WIN Against The Roos

The only downside I can see would be players such as Lids or Cotch wanting to go to another club. However, they've previously stated that they want to stay at Richmond, so I don't think that this is a big problem.

And if they're not doing enough early in a season to get us into a position where we don't want to tank, perhaps they're the ones that need replacing.

It's up to them to start performing well enough to take tanking out of the equation.

The game this weekend is of minimal importance. We need a priority pick in the top 20 or so.

I can guarantee that we will win 5 games & lose out on both the priority pick & 1st pick in the draft.

It is perfectly set up for us to absolutely stuff it up royally.

It is the Richmond way.

i reckon theres alot to like about some of the kids where got and to add sully or others to the list would be fantastic, post, lids, tampo, collins, mcguane, thursfield. they cannot go out and win cheap no point games, finishing on the bottom will give us a huge boost before the clowns from g17 take over the draft. the club owes all members, not to win, where use to it whats the difference where been loses for 25 years, whats another 8 games

Guarantee, eh? What are you willing to do if your guarantee doesn't occur?

Relax Danog, I didn't mean it literally. ::)

I hope I'm wrong but look at who we play the remainder of the year.

You don't think we will beat WC in the last round now that Cox & Kerr have 'mysterious medical conditions' & will not play again this year? And I'm pretty certain that we'll win another along the way.

Wow this has generated some mometum.

I appreciate all your thoughts on both counts. For and against.

Now for my thoughts a little bit further, which i have stated and go against many here, especially you Claw. So here it is again !.

Every game a footballer steps out to play for the Richmond Football Club, his main priority should be to play at his outmost best. I fail to believe any player deliberately doesnt give his all to win.

A selection committee may have another agenda.

A coach is hard to tell. Without naming any , i would have to say some coaches and clubs would have to be questioned as to how fair dinkum they were in winning. One game springs to mind straight away, which was a farce for the AFL. How they can believe "tanking" in one form or another doesnt occur is beyond me.

I didnt play the game at the highest level, but when i did play football i played for a club whose ability to win games was zero. One particular season we won two games that we were not expected to win at all considering our average loosing margin was over 100+ point EVERY game. I played in the ruck and was our taller player at the club and that says something when you are only 6" foot playing against taller kids and bigger bodies. I never went out . on ANY occasion and never game my all for the club. No matter what was the circumstance or no matter who we played. We won two games that year and i will tell you , unless you have gone through it yourself then you have no idea how great it felt. The smiles on our faces , the sheer joy was unbelievable.

When i was a little older and got into martial arts, i had been training for a couple of years and had my first amateur muay thai/kickboxing fight and i was fighting against an experienced guy. I wasnt given a chance to last one round. I knocked him out the first round (to the canvas) he got up(to his creit and courage) and the fight lasted another 2 rounds. So i lasted 3 rounds of a fight i wasnt given a chance to last 1.

So , the reason i am saying all this is , there is nothing better than winning. Winning builds the right culture, winning builds success and success ultimately gives you a chance at finals. Then its anyone's chance at a premiership. Our culture is something that many inside and outside have itentified as truly lacking at our club for so long it aint funny anymore. Its a joke.

We have some promising kids. Lids, Cotch and Tambling to name a few(just going on top 10 pics ) who, if our culture isnt fixed and winning isnt a priority then we may see these kids and other promising kids of ours playing for other clubs because THEY WANT SUCCESS SO BAD.

Thats why with Cousins there this year and i hope he is retained next year ( on pure form ) as he is one player that can lead by example and show the younger players how hard you have to train and work to succeed, to have success.

Lastly , and i will leave it at this. How many first round draft picks(number 1 or 2) have won premierships for their clubs since the inception of this draft in its present form? Since i think its introduction in what 1986 ? there have been what 2/3 ?

High draft picks dont guarantee you diddly. I firmly believe its how to nurture and develop your picks, who is the coach and who are his assistants that brings out the best in these kids and just maybe you unearth champions of the future.

History through 1986 is littered with picks taken later in the draft who have become absolute champions for their clubs.

People have short memories.

Winning isnt everything, its THE ONLY THING." Ben Cousins

Now i wait to be shot down. Fire away, but you will always miss to hit me because i believe in the above.

Many people will think we are in a lot of trouble this week to stuff up a great opportunity.

Richmond has a massive advantage over a large chunk of AFL teams regarding the 2013 season onwards in that it got its hands on some top young players who are getting experience now and will be in that 24-28 year old window in 3-4 seasons. If the team can sneak another 2 top young players in this year's draft before the major dilution comes then it would have to royally stuff up their development to not make huge ground on the pack over the next few seasons.

Do not underestimate how small the gap is between 4th and 13th. I know a lot of people think Richmond are a rabble but it is a lot closer to a top 6 side than people think with the talent coming through. A Trent Cotchin Pre-season and some straight kicking from Riewoldt and Nahas and Richmond would be sitting on 6 wins now maybe 7 and eyeing off another 9th spot finish and pick 10. This is a huge opportunity for Richmond to finish bottom, securing a high draft pick with a squad that was much much better and was terribly coached and effected by key injuries early.

Many tiger supporters will be screaming "We must not win". They will want to see Tambling and Cousins playing in the forward pockets where they are less influential. Jack Riewoldt playing at CHF with no other tall option in the Forward line, and no work on his goal kicking until the summer break! They will want to see Nahas put on the bench where he will stop inspiring the team to tackle and compete harder. They will want to keep Polo at HB where his slow play stops the team running on and setting up quick rebound footy. They will want to play Matty White in the middle of the ground at bounces where he can't use his pace from the wings and his fumbles will stop clearances. They will want to put Daniel Jackson on Harvey again and get all the team to stir Harvey up so much he plays the game of his life and inspires the Roo's to a huge performance. And they will be screaming for GOD'S sake to rest Trent Cotchin because he is now getting fit and is going to influence games too much! And if the Tiges still get in front - they will be begging for the team to fake some injuries and play with 16 on the field!!!!

Are you one of these people? Many of you have already begged the team to tank. Many of you probably want it but do not want to say it or write it on a website like this for fear everyone will call you a traitor or not worthy of barracking or being a Richmond member.

The AFL drafting system is a joke and encourages this crap tanking and will surely be changed to a system like the NBA/NHL lottery drafts in the near future. So should Richmond take advantage of it? The players will play there guts out for a win......but Jade, you may become a Richmond hero to many supporters if you can stop this enthusiastic group of talented young players from winning any more games and secure a top 3 pick plus a priority.

My thoughts.... well......uuummmmmmmmmm.....eeeeeerrrrrrrrr..... of.... course.... I want.....the tiges to............win.......I....pr...pr...promise......

Go Tiges.
