The importance of this years draft on the future of the club i feel cannot be overstated enough.

Terry, Miller, Jackson have a huge responsibility to build our list over the next two years for us to make a climb up the ladder.

Really it could be the end for these three if we dont climb up the ladder and recruit to cover our lack in areas such as another key backman, on baller, forward and ruck. It is imperative that they recruit kids with the right attitude, skill and build to build the club and make a climb up the ladder.

Over the next two drafts our side will be hardly recognisable with quite a few players from this years list not being there. I guess a huge cleanout this year i dont think can be achieved so it may take the two years depending on how deep this years draft is and maybe someone can help me out on that !

I expect a steady rise up the ladder next year so then next years draft will not give us the advantage of a priority pick or n# 1 pre season draft pick. Look all things being equal i wouldnt be surprised if we finished in the eight with an ouce of luck with Simmo, Cogs, Polo bakc and some further development from our kids this year and some playing in the Coburg colors.

It could be exciting times but it comes down to the attitude of the players, the recruitment of the required players (young kids) to the club and Terry's game plan. Also a decent pre season in the weights room wouldnt go astray.

Thanks

Pending injuries, a rise up the ladder, that is off the bottom and not finishing 16th is on the cards.

We have Simmo, Cogs, Polo, Connors, Cotchin? & even the number 1 pick in the PS Draft who could be available for round 1 next year, which means 6 players will miss out from the team that played the Saints in R22. Adding Casserly, Hughes, Schulz, and picks in round 2 & 3 in the year's draft and we are starting to accumulate a bit of depth. Even a Clingan or even a Collins could even take a few steps and stick their head in for selection. I'm excited. :rofl

I just wish the injury god's are on our side, for once.

I am still to be convinced that Wallace has the steely eyed attitude to cut into our playing list.

He has shown a propensity for being wishy washiness; however I am certain Miller has to have no input into this draft.

I do not expect any great players from this draft, because of the type of players chosen by Wallace and Miller.

I expect the same type they always choose; players with huge upside but not ready to play.

We will end up with another lot of flankers and a recycled ruckman in the PSD.

I do not expect any KPP/Ruck to be taken, they might surprise me but I doubt it.

Considering we have turned over our list more than any other club since Wallace took over I'd say you're wrong, and then there's the ruthlessness in the Kellaway and Gaspar decisions.

Tough call on Jackson, he's only been involved for 5 minutes, the others should be feeling the pinch if the results don't come.

Dont forget we have the appointment of our list manager coming up soon (any word on this yet, you imagine they will do it before draft).

What are we looking for?

Yes, you are limited by what is available at each point in the draft, but with the new Rookie list system, you really can pick whatever 'type' of player you like and develop them.

My primary target for Richmond is tall mobile players, and strong players (of any height).

My secondary target is players who fit the ruck-rover mold, and find a heap of the ball.

Unless your midfield wins the ball, you might as well not have forwards, be they stars or not.

Hawthorns young forwards would be worthless without Hodge and Mitchell. If even one of those two (or maybe Lewis) get an injury, thhe same thing would happen to them as has happened to West Coast with its midfield injuries.

Large mobile players with real weight, give you flexibility in your game plan. The best plan is have running midfielders score all your goals, but there are teams you can't do that against (Adelaide/Sydney). The next option is players who can win the ball in a pack, or one-on-one when the ball is kicked long to them. Conversely you need large mobile backs to deal with your opponents large talls. (or you can have Pattison type utilites dropping into space in front of them.

Players like Harrison Lee (NSW rookie) interest me, large, skilled, confident. To me there should be 2 or even 3 somewhere in our rookie system at all times. Angus Graham more or less fits this category too. Really solid, takes a while to develop, risky, so should not be taken through the main draft.

We also need to use every rookie spot we have, so this includes our second NSW rookie spot, and our international rookie spot.

I would go and pinch a young Rugby Union player myself. A flanker, with the type of build Loti Tuqiri, or any Rugby 7's Fijiian has, would be perfect. Campese had the right size for what we are after too.
