Great game from Lids tonight, probably the best I've seen him play in person. Tambling was OK but someone with his pace really should take the opposition on more in terms of running around the man.

had a gutfull of tambling...lazy footballer....i reckon he should be trade bait...

I wouldn't give up on him yet. Having said that, damn I get anoyed watching him as he looks like he doesn't chase.... good (quite often great) with the footy, but how many times I have seen an opponent run off him. Maybe it is a fitness issue (not that he is unfit - he's not, but maybe he needs another 5% base improvement to be able to run forward and back all day?) Maybe he doesn't realise he could be in the contest if he ran? Maybe...? I am at a loss.

You LEARN how to play a game when you play junior football.
Don't agree with this at all. In my experience, playing senior footy was very different to junior footy. You learn so much more after a few years of senior footy, in fact, I think you learn all the time. That's why players generally peak at 27-28 years old, one because of the extra experience and two because of the peak physical condition and quick recovery capability.

Your comparison of other sports is flawed too. In golf and cricket the best peak at much older ages than 15 and 19. Consistency is a big issue for youngsters. As for women's tennis, well what a ridiculous comparison.

The fact is younger, inexperienced teams stastically perform much worse than experienced teams.

I cant' understand this "learning" thing that people are talking about. What are they learning? That as a group they cannot run out a game? Exactly how do you "learn" to win a game by losing 9 in a row? How many games must a team lose before they learn?

The whole "we are playing kids, be patient" line is the biggest crock of sh!t in any sport. 15 year old boys winning USPGA golf tournaments, 17 year old girls winning Wimbeldon, 19 year olds scoring centuries in Test matches..... and 22 year old footballers kicking the ball to the opposition...consistently.

You DON'T LEARN how to play a game after 15 odd years of playing. Improve, well maybe, but the fundamentals are set in stone. As a great man once said in Zoolander "some people turn left at the end of a runway, some people turn right". Some people can kick a ball, some people can't.

You LEARN how to play a game when you play junior football.

You either have the ability and can produce, or you don't...

Interesting post, generally agree with all of it.

Don't ignore the requirement to learn how to perform on the big stage, that is something most young players have to come to grips with and it cannot be avoided.

Having said that, we have many players who now have had sufficient experience and should have adjusted to playing in front of big crowds etc., and if they still can't come up with the goods then cull them off the list and give others that may make it their chance to prove it.

We keep too many average footballers - when it is obvious that they aren't up to it - on our list for too long.

I tell you what Deledio and Cotchin running around together would be a very very nice sight...

TW quoted that the bummers had 2600 games experience, we had 1500.

All he does is make excuses. That type of talk makes me sick, it is more about avoiding hard work than putting things in context...

No not an excuse, just a fact to explain even with their experience, we nearly got the 4 points.

By the way TT, what things should Wallace put into context?
