OK one and all i was at the Burgers game today and put up a report on the Coburg thread.

Whilst many of the youngsters played well today and showed a bit (some very impressive and some heartened me immensely) i must say that standard of VFL footy is very very far removed from AFL level.

Many Tiger yougsters show up very well at VFL level ( Morton, Collard, Jack, Rance, Connors, Collins etc) however it is no surprise to see the youngsters struggle a bit when promoted.

The yougsters in VFL lack the exposure to harder competition that kids in the WAFL and SANFL are getting every week which better prepares them for the rigours and pace of AFL.

The kids many of them are above VFL level and need more exposure at AFL level to get them going.

Many non listed Copburg players are also very very good at this level ie (Caruso, Shelton, Carnell and Silvestor)

Whilst its easy to get excited at the prospects of these kids one must temper expectation of them.

Morton, Collard are well above this level and both have a huge amount to offer the RFC and i hope they can get these boys going in the right direction as there is no substitue for class and quality and these boys have it.

Rance, JR, Connors, Collins and Casserly also hearten me and promise much for the future if developed properly.

Jon has improved a bit but still has plenty of work to do.

The tigers have kids to work with and the time has come to start working with them.

Better drafts to improve the structure of the list will better position the Tigers going forward.

There is some junior talent there that in my view will offer more than some others ahead of them going forward.

No one is saying that if we put in these kids we will be a chance for the eight or anything like that. All we want is to give them a go and see who is upto it and who isn't. That is the only way this club will improve and plus there run and enthusiasm is exciting to watch

Absolutely Bozo the Clown.

Im all for the kids playing, ive had enough of the same olds, near enuffs and not good enuffs playing week in week out.

The pay off is having kids boosting their egos in the VFL or having em learn at the school of hard knocks.

I think exposure at the highest level is what some of these youngsters require to go forward and to allow the club to start developing a core of the future.

They might suffer inconsistency, bodies aren't up to it blah blah blah.
Wouldn't think all players from other clubs have big physiques.
At least they won't have that ingrained loser mentality.
And make sure all the negative type players stay away from the kids. Hire security guards if you have to.
They better start whacking the kids in and see what they've got

Im all for the kids ........ bring em on as ive said some of em are already dominant at VFL level to a degree.

They may be best served being brought on via the big stage.

Ideally, you play the youngsters when they show enough maturity in body and in mind. Unfortunately when some senior players are give ultimatums and still don't perform your hand is played and you really have no choice but to play more of the youngsters.

Cotchin and McMahon were the only new faces from last years wooden spoon team, one star one dud. That says it all.
PLAY THE *SMILIN"* KIDS so we can see some of the future. I'm over the past!!

Heartily agree. I for one never want to see McSquib, Petrified and Tivendale in RFC jumpers again and that's just for starters!!

Pattison, McGuane and Tuck can go - not good enough. Thursfield's injured and Edwards needs a spell at Coburg.

Seven chnages? That's how bad we were on Saturday afternoon.

finally! A measured post which doesn't rant and rave about the forthcoming apocalypse and the destruction of the RFC.

Well said Craig, I for one have been disappointed with Tivendale and co. getting games but to lose sight of the long term vision is to undermine the changes which have taken place over the past 3 and a half years.

For the first time in a decade, the midfield is starting to look potent and with another top shelf player in the mix we will be on our way to matching it with the best.

Throw in Rance down the backline and things don't seem so wobbly, add a ruckman to the list and we won't be getting smashed in the middle and finally, if we can find get our hands on a key forward then the spine will be well and truly taking shape.

Some people here really need to take a chill pill, no one really expected us to perform this season anyway so why all the vitriol? It amazes me that the very people that are predicting doomsday are the same people insisting upon playing for the priority pick! Talk about rampant hipocracy!
