Instead of all the negative energy around here lately maybe we can help Terry get the team over the line next weekend.

Can anyone remember the good and bad things about our last game against Sydney and offer any suggestions on how we can reverse the result?

BBB was too big and strong for Joel. Who do we have to try and contain him? I reckon Gas should have first crack at him. We need Joel to create play and run off the hb line rather than be plonked in the goal square.

It's a pity Chaff hasn't managed to come back. I reckon he could do Johnno's tight tagging role and release Kane to be more attacking.

The youth have a bit more experience now + Swans have shown a vulnerability not too often evident last year.

Won't be easy but need to be competitive all game & take full advantage during periods when we have momentum.Unlike last year, the Swans have dropped a few close ones so if we can hang in,we may be able to mess with their heads.SCG dimensions help here too.

We actually have some tall defenders available this time around. Last time, we had Gas, Thirsty, Kellaway & Hall all out.

We have a better record at the SCG than at the Dome.Thats a positive :thumbsup
Agree Skipper,we play okay up there.Still think Sydney will win.

I work with a swans supporter and we always have lunch together and discuss the footy, after last time I copped abuse for weeks. I couldn't stand having to listen to it again :-[ Hopefully with a backline this time around and all the younger guys having a few more games under their belts the result will be a lot better for us.

We got absolutely smashed out of the middle in that game, that is where is starts and ends so we really need to pick up our workrate around the clearances this coming match against the swans. They got far too much easy ball into their forward line that match.

Rosy, do you look around your house and find a bunch of old stuff that you know you should get rid of, but haven't had the heart to do so or kept them for sentimental reasons?

That's what the RFC has done with Chaffey. Chaffey is far too slow, his disposal is awful and he will add nothing to our long term future. Prefer to see Matt White or Cam Howat be given a role like that and run with someone all game to learn from them.

As for the original challenge, I wouldn't put McGuane on O'Loughlin he's too agile for our boy. I'd use Foley a lot more in the middle. We'd be better off putting someone like Andy or Bowden on Goodes. After the towelling Bowden got this week, I'm sure he'll want to atone with a big scalp this week.

The good thing is, we should have more of our senior backmen in this game than the one at Telstra dome, where they got the benefit of our small and inexperienced lineup.

The last thing I'd do is replay the game and show the boys how easily we got pushed off the ball last time, and reiterate how they needed to be harder at it, to make sure history didn't repeat.

TW said something interesting during the week about the game against the Swans earlier in the year.
I cant find the quote but he said it was after that game he realised he needed more than one game plan for the boys and now has about 3 to choose from depending on the team we're playing, hopefully he will use one of these new ones this time around and we will at least show a bit come saturday night.

thats right. j bowden and mcguane were our KP backman. they also kicked 4 goals in the first 5 minutes. the game was gone by that stage. that game was an abheration (sp?) imo. if the swans play their traditional man-on-man game style, it will suit us to a T. it's when they relaease their players and start to run that will worry us, but it's harder to do at the smaller SCG

we are much better off this time for player availability

gas on hall, moore or bowden on oloughlin

Swans are coming off a huge game in Perth. They only kicked one goal in second half and appeared exhausted, bruised and battered

Thats if we have Bowden for next week. After all the ridicule, the tribunal might finally decided to get tough, if Joel gets cited.

I'm going to this game, will be my first time seeing a game at the SCG...the last time I saw the Tiges was against the Roos at the G a few weeks ago (the day of the Jack the Ripper mist ) so I hope the lads can lift for me again.

What to do if JB is given a week off? Who can come in for him?

Sarge goes down back. Meyer comes in and plays forward.

If Bowden is good enough to convince umpires that kicks in to goal are actually behinds, he should be good enough to convince the tribunal that he's not guilty. :hihi

Agree that Gas should be given first crack at Hall - I still think he's our best stopper for the big gorilla-type forwards.

I think the key to this game is to make sure we pressure the Swans on every possession. Although they often seem to thrive on the close-checking style of play, when they can get runners in the open and have time to deliver the ball coming forward, they are a very dangerous proposition. We need to be a lot tougher physically around the ball and be willing to sacrifice the body in the close-in contests.

As for Bowden, I think it is always hard to be the main avenue out of defence if you need to keep track of one of the opposition's better forwards. For that reason, I'd keep him away from the likes and Goodes and give that job to Andy Kellaway. Both Bowdens need to take lesser lights on the forward line in order to get the latitude to run off and create forward moves.

Finally, our forwards need to be prepared to chase and harrass and make every Swans possession contested as they try to come out of our forward line. It may sound simplistic, but pressure on the guy with the ball will be the key to this game.
