I hadn't been able to get around to this for a while but have the time today. I tried to search for my original The List post but couldn't find it. Oh well. I haven't seen last nights game yet, but will find it difficult to write this without taking into account last night's match. I include 2011 as always as Terry's Premiership year. Here we go.
2. Will Thursfield - Was the FB poster child for a while there, seems to have fallen out of favor a touch? Started on the bench last night, is that right? Still young, but I'm not too sure how much improvement is left in him. Athletic enough, and has an extremely high EffKick ratio I think. Is pretty much a stay at home and spoil FB. Not a mountain of a man, but plays to his strengths anyway...I don't remember him getting rag dolled too often.
Importance to team 2009: 7 Importance to team 2011: 7 Chances of a trade for draft picks to GC: 0
3. Brett Deledio - Richmond's great white hope is still unfortunately just that. Yes yes yes has all the tools to be an elite. But why is it taking so long? From all accounts was horrid last night, and that's just not what we want to see from this guy. He is supposed to above being dragged down by the ineptitude of those around him. And by the way Brett, the season starts from Round 1.
2009: 9 2011: 9 GC: 0
4. Andrew Raines - Never ever been a fan sorry. Too bad about the knee last night. Tram tracks, ordinary disposal, his burst running from HB is too often into trouble. Has probably had gold stars next to his name as the one to deliver Terry's great running off half back vision of the future football.
2009 : 4 2011: 3 GC: 6
5: Troy Simmonds - Been very serviceable and utterly professional at the RFC. Definitely AFL standard ruck. Has a very occasional shocker. Getting older. Should be a great mentor to Vickery and Browne.
2009: 10 2011: 5 GC: 0
6. Graham Polak - A sad sad story....and that was before the accident. A cameo player really, looks great with superb hands here and there, but never imposes himself on matches. Woeful kick for goal, just awful, totally ruling him out as a forward. We all wish him the best.
2009: 0 2011: 0 GC: 2
7. Nathan Brown : Ticker Brown...where do you start? We've been told a few times he is superb shape this year and ready to play his best footy for some time. Mmm....One of the most sublimely skilled AFL footballers going around....but you wouldn't want him next to you in a WW1 trench. Getting on too.
2009: 8 2011: 3 GC : 2
8. Jack Riewoldt - Gutsy, smart, pretty skilled, good overhead. Goalkicking can desert him at times. In the modern game, doesn't have the body size or speed to be the No.1 forward. Should be a long term player for us.
2009: 8 2011: 9 GC: 0
9. Trent Cotchin - Looks to have all the tools to be elite. And the mindset too. But he's not there yet. Still queries on his body. Softly softly please tiges.
2009: on last nights team display...9 2011: 10 GC: 0
10. Shane Edwards - From what I'd been reading seems to have had a poorish pre-season...seems to be having a poor season now. Another lightly built outside player with dodgy footskills. Has an upside I'm willing to give a go, namely his hands and tank. Is never gonna physically hurt anyone on the field.
2009: 4 2011: ....mm...5 GC: 4
11. Joel Bowden - As I said I haven't seen last night's game but I can imagine it alright. Absolutely 200% shoulda been Gaspared not last year but 2 years ago. Game has well and truly passed him by. Have you ever seen a player who like clockwork takes 5 weeks to "work his way in the season"!! Ridiculous he was selected last night ahead of Rance.
2009: 3 2011: 0 GC: 0
12. Richo - Probably still has the physical ability to play 2010, 2011 I'm not sure. But I reckon another full year sprinting around the wing will do him in. At any rate, we won't be getting a thing for him when he's goes now. Go and marry that poor girl and PRODUCE will you!!!
2009: 8 2011: 0 GC: 0
13. Sanchez McMuffin - What a magnificent derogatory footballer's nickname that is. And well deserved. Under no pressure has a superb kick to position and not bad speed off half back. Under pressure turns into a torture victim locked in darkness for 5 years in a cellar. Let me out, I wanna go home, home, home...Muuuummmmmyyyyy...
2009: 6 (you better believe it he'll be selected next week and the week after) 2011: 0 (will be Gaspared in 2 seconds under the new coach) GC: 0
14. Dean Polo - Another product of the fateful 2004 draft. Anyways you look at it, this guy is not a great kick. He's also not quick. Is gutsy, is a footballer, is out of favor. With me too.
2009: 3 2011: 3 GC: 3
15. Kayne Pettifer - Took an eternity to develop into a very average mark and kick flanker with poor defensive skills and selfish attitude. Depending on injuries (to others) and his own fitness could play senior football this year. I always thought he coulda had one amazing 8-9 goal game but that's unlikely now.
2009: 4 2011: 2 GC: 7
16: Luke McGuane - I thought this guy had absolutely no chance of making in the AFL, and I could still be right, but at least he's got guts. His best footy is about 25% under where a premiership back needs to be. Don't know what he did last night. You can see him kind of squinting in concentration when he has to kick it to position, Kellawayesque.
2009: 8 2011: 5 GC: 6
17: Chris Newman - Seemed to become a bit more accountable last year, as in worrying about what his opponent is doing. Still doesn't show enough hard at it desperation for me. Hurt someone will you. Is it right foot or left foot? I always forget. Looks good when he bombs one though. How come he doesn't do that more often though? Worst hair in football. Just freaking weird.
2009: 6 2011: 6 GC: 0
18. Alex Rance - If this guy doesn't get more cut lunches than Buddy Franklin when he establishes himself I'll go hee. Give him a go will you Wallace fa *smile* sake.
2009: 6 2011: 7 GC: 2
19. Dean Putt : Is this guy any good? Who knows? I hope so. We could do with a 200cm guy who take a mark a kick a goal. Can you do that that?
2009: 1 2011: 3 GC: 2
20. Mitch Morton - Can play...a bit...quite a bit...very good at what he does....which is basically kick goals. Not too many complaints from me. So far so good.
2009: 9 2011: 9 GC: 2
21. Shane Tuck - Another "I'll be right by Round 4 Terry" type. Jeezzzzzus will someone tell these guys that points in R1 R2 R3 actually COUNT! Pretty good player when on, pretty bad player when off. Is tough anyway and boy we need that.
2009: 8 2011: 6 GC: 4
22. JON - .............I.......I.......just don't get it. Wh......wh....I just don't get it.
2009: 0 2011: 0 GC: 0
23. Daniel Jackson - Good student. Fitness freak. Speaks 6 languages. Not much of a footballer though. C'mon....I mean....he just isn't. And he's gonna play more than he doesn't this year.
2009: 4 2011: 4 GC: 4
24. Mark Coughlan - I'm sorry but I have to be brutal here. Now, I was blown away like a lotta people when we got this guy....here was a player who was as hard as nails, was a ball magnet, skills weren't Judd like but whatever, we finally had a midfielder who looked more than capable of playing week in week out on the ball and actually being a very very good AFL player. Far far better than Water Closet, Jeff Stryker, and N....Niiiiccc...D..D...sorry that name just won't come out of my keyboard. But if you are pinning your hopes on this guy in 2009 WAKE UP! The game has increased in speed and skill by about 20% since Cogs debuted, and he was never that quick or skilled anyway. And he's had 2 recos. I hope he plays good senior footy again I really do. But surely we need to be very very realistic.
2009: 2 2011: 2 GC:0
25. Jay Schulz - How many of you have finally given up after last night? C'mon, hands up! Yeah you at the back, c'mon! Yeah, me too. Pick 26 from Port wasn't it? Learn these words Richmond will you please.....CUT and RUN.
2009: 3 2011: 0 GC: 5
26. Adam Pattison - After last night he gets some bonus points. FWIW, I think he's VFL standard.
2009: 7 2011: 6 GC : 4
27. Tom Hislop - What's the knock again....kicking wasn't it? Hahahahahahahah....will be playing quite a bit of senior footy this year I reckon.
2009: 5 2011: 6 GC: 2
28. Kane Johnson - I'm not a hater. But it's been rocky this last couple of years. Still can't quite believe he's going around this year.
2009: 5 2011: 0 GC:0
29. Tyrone Vickery - I'm excited about Tyrone. He's big and quick and skilled enough. I reckon he'll play this year.
2009: 4 2011: 8 GC: 0
30. Richard Tambling - The Witness. The Watcher. The Watchman. Was ok last night, ya'reckon? I'll be thinking about that as 2 certain key forwards kick close to 200 goals between them for the same team! I ran out of patience ages ago. They are still trying to work out where to play him!
2009: 5 2011: 2 GC: 8
31. Adam Thomson - I have no idea. If he's hard and wants it give him a go.
2009: 5 2011: 5 GC: 4
34. Cleve Hughes - Has shown very very little over the journey. So similar to Schulz and what he has achieved it's not funny. 1 six goal game each....with most of those kicked in one quarter. Just doesn't look like he's got it to me. And what is IT? Holding down a key forward AFL position is what.
2009: 5 2011: 4 GC: 6
35. Matt White - I'm a fan. Wants to make it a la Foley. I though he improved his disposal quite a bit last year and by the end was automatic selection. Can't buy that line breaking speed. No where near as much talent as say, Tambling, but way way ahead in the bust a gut stakes.
2009: 7 2011: 7 GC: 2
37. Jayden Post: An AFL baby. Put him in the side and leave him there for 5 weeks. I loved that YouTube highlights package by the way.
2009: 5 2011: 8 GC: 0
39. Daniel Connors - Talent and attitude to burn. Does he want it enough? God I hope so.
2009: 6 2011: 8 GC: 3
40. Kelvin Moore - I was wrong. Finally clicked last year, we think. Needs to back it up in 2009.
2009: 9 2011: 8 GC: 2
41. Nathan Foley - Must hurting after last night. Will back up well. Knows no other way.
2009: 10 2011: 9 GC: 0
42. Andrew Collins: Was looking forward to seeing this kid and finally had a glimpse in the NAB Cup. And guess what...HE'S A RAKE! Everyone seems to think he's got the talent, but I'll tell you one thing, one decent hit from a Sam Mitchell type and his collarbone will snap like a twig.
2009: 3 2011: 6 GC: 3
43. Andrew Browne: They were carrying on like he was Peter Moore, Gary Dempsey, John Nicholls and Roy Wright rolled into one. Pathetic really. Keep plugging away big fella.
2009: 2 2011: 5 GC:2
44. Angus Graham - Pre-season reports have been...errr...disastrous, I think is the word. Cut and run Richmond, cut and run.
2009: 1 2011: 0 GC: 0
46. Dirty Little Jakey King - I was in love for about 6 weeks last year. Ahhh, the memories. A limited footballer. Has a go though. Hope he gets a run a whacks someone.
2009: 3 2011: 0 GC: 0
Rookies
33. David Gourdis - More "development" going on here. Mmmm...yeah...I see.
2009: 1 2011: 2 GC: 5
36: Jarrod Sylvestor - Ummm...yeah.....if Moore, McGuane, Rance, Thursfield, Post all go down, you're up.
2009: 1 2011: 0 GC: 0
38: Robin Nahas - Should get a go sooner rather than later. Loved that NAB goal but I didn't see a lot else on camera. We badly need forward pressure and nouse.
2009: 6 2011: 4 GC: 3
45: Alroy Gilligan - Basically unknown. Do ya best son.
2009: 1 2011: 0 GC: 3
