Well well well......as I was walking down from my seat,I witnessed Jordy get tackled and try to get a handpass off to Whitey, and stood there in amazement shaking my head when the umpire signalled a pushing motion with 2 hands and pinged him....
I walked out of the stadium happy that the rule will never never never see the light of day in the REAL games..

What an absolute joke...

Every bloody year we seem to get the nuff nuffs at AFL house sitting around with cups of tea and biscuits, thinking of ways to validify their jobs....."Hmmmm we need to come up with some new rules to try this year, Hmmm, I know, lets put even more pressure on the umpirires to adjudicate wether a ball has intenetionally been put through or not, yeah thats a good one.....well done Barry, yah thanks Bruce"

Bloody hell...................my answer to all this rule stuff is this......

If a rule cannot be used in a Grand Final with 1 minute to go in the game and with scores tied, then it should be put into the bin!! End of story...

Games should not be decided by decisions such as this, and lets be honest who honestly beleives that in that GF scenario an umpire would have the balls to use it.....NEVER....

Let umpires do their job and keep their decision making to a minimum, instead of having stories in the press about a wrong one given, because one day it could change a result ..

Totally agree Phil Lap,

The rules don't change in the last minutes of the season, but the "interpretation" by the umpires can, or they are told it will.

Not many meetings by committees come up with the option of, "we are doing nothing but trying to justify our jobs, we should all be sacked as we are offering no improvements".

We yell at the umps for bad calls, but FFS there job changes constantly, and they do it running backwards.

I liked the "Rushed Behind" rule - it made the game more exciting because the backmen could not take the easy way out.

The rules that I think stink are

the play-on if kicked backwards and marked in the backline

the kick having to travel at least 20m to be considered a mark

These 2 rules make it easier for the basketball zone (flooding) football which is IMO an eyesore and not part of the spirit of the game.

Whilst the McMahon decision was poor (there will always be teething problems) the rushed rule concept is good IMO......RT

In hindsight, Collingwood supporters should be the ones upset as the resulting free kick hit the behind post & as a result was out of bounds on the full....no score!!

This is why l hate rule changes. They go hard on the new ones and for get forget about the ones they introduced over the last few years.

Now it's ok to to place hands in back, but last year they were all over it.
Now it's ok to grab someone after they take a mark. 2 years ago 50 meters.
Now it's ok to take someone on and get caught. 3 years ago red hot holding the ball.
Now its ok to jump early in ruck. 3 years ago free kick as eyes were not on the ball.
Now its ok to punch arms not the ball. 2 years ago red hot, free kick.
Now its ok when a free kick is given to you to push or contact the other player high. 3 years ago red hot reverse decision.

STOP INTRODUCING RULES THEN SLOWLY FAZE THEM OUT.

AFL leave the game alone. The game has been around for over 150 and with minor rule changes.

Give us our game back.

Rule changes l really dislike and why.

Mark taken in square, shoots directly in front. They are making it harder for backmen and easy for the forwards.
Player can kick out quickly after a point is scored. Why disadvantage the team trying to score.
There are plenty more..

Thanks B2

Hands in the back has reached a good level. They're softer on placing hands on the back without any pushing motion but they're harder than they were on pushing the back decisions beofre the rule was changed.

Re grabbing someone after they take a mark in the first round of the NAB cup this year they were extremely hard on this.

Re jumping early in the ruck, you can do it but you still have to have eyes on the ball. They will ping you even now if you only have eyes for teh other ruckman.

Punching the arms they will generally enforce this if they see it.

Agree with IanG you B1unch of B2ananas ;D

I do, however, understand your feelings on rule changes generally though. On balance i think we can live without most of them not long after they've been introduced, but they did serve like a "bumper on a bowling lane" by keeping the spirit of the game alive. With so many minds now trying to exploit the rules to a team or individual's advantage, these niggling little changes are almost the norm.

If David Parkin had had his way, we would have had marking duels at CHF like the line-outs in Rugby Union (as an example of how far exploitation can go sometimes).
