Never mentioned it before on PRE but as its brought up yes ill own up i was one of the 2 who appeared in those series of 5 ad's, David and i were flown to Sydney to film these 5 commercials we did 1 V the pies, swans at a massive pond, Dockers at the shipping yards, 1 for the saints at a church and the doggies at a dogs contest, they were pretty unusual and a tad wacky but believe it not they were nominated for best new commercial in that category of innovation or so to speak.
We had so much fun filming these ad's over 2 days admittingly i was expecting these big budget series of commercials but lets just say the budget wasn't set as high as i had expected, in the first place we had to find magpies and then hoping they would stay still (fat chance) that was the hardest as they kept flying away before the cameras starting rolling but after several hours that’s the best we could do.
The one we did for the Dockers was a classic at the shipping yards we surprised these overseas workmen/sailors who couldn’t speak English, we had all our tigers gear on and we were singing the song seriously they thought we were mad, they didn't see us coming as we surprised them, we got clearance from security but the sailors had no idea after a bit of apprehension they joined us with laughter and applauded us after we finished singing the tigers song with ghetto blaster placed firmly on the ground.
The saints ad we did in the church after some consultation the thought of storming in an open church with people attending mass not a good idea and as a catholic myself i agreed, spoke to the priest and we did the ad after the church was cleared, that ad i liked but our singing i don’t know why but we both had a church feel to it but we did no justice to the song.
The dog’s ad was interesting we actually hid behind the van and literally stormed a dogs competition on the grass placed the "ghetto blaster" down and started singing the Richmond song with some dog owners perplexed by us singing the tigers song right in front of them.
Last but not least was the swans ad we did went to this big pond and starting singing at swans highly innovative stuff (not) but nonetheless we did what they wanted us to do, anyone who saw the ad we decided to "chuck a brown eye" at the swans but the cameras purposely drifted away to make it allowable for TV.
All in all very weird and wacky ad’s but a hell of a lot of fun making them.
David and i also had heaps of fun out on the town at night and we had to be up very early for the making of these 5 ads’...
