The oppositions lack of respect for the Richmond Football Club

You need to look no further than Grant Thomas's remarks on FC several weeks ago when he said playing against Richmond was a 'delight' because he knew we didnt like it hard. That is about as degrading as it gets.

whilst the remark is probably true what hurts the most is it comes from a premiership coach who was able to take a bunch that wasnt very highly rated and turn them into a true force. oh wait thats not quite what happened is it?
he comes across a loud mouthed arrogant man. who happens to be right this time

We are respected by all out of form players (especially forwards) in the competition because we are highlighted in their calendar as the week we will play them back into form.

Where are the leaders both on-field and off-field at our club that will actually stand up and try to show the football world we are not a soft touch??

All those leaders you are asking for have either retired or past away. No leaders at this club of a senior capacity.

Respect is earnt. We've not done much over the last 27 years to demand that respect.

There is nothing worse than my feral Carlton mate saying "ahhhhh, it's alright mate, you guys will get there one day". No respect at all, just pity.

Took the words out of my mouth,

Respect is earnt.

You dont get it for no reason.

Look no further then the headline in todays Herald Sun which screams HUGE DAY FOR DEES.

sh!t teams like Melbourne lick their lips when they see Richmond as their opponent, they see it as a chance to kick start their season or feast on our carcas. Where are the leaders both on-field and off-field at our club that will actually stand up and try to show the football world we are not a soft touch??

And this has been going on for over 2 decades!

But plain and simply we are a soft touch, softer than butter. Can't blame the dees for fancying their chances, can't say I'm very confident about a win this week. Even if we thrash them by 15 goals it's gonna be a nothing win.

I feel this is the danger game. Melbourne would be backing themselves to beat us. Having said that, I wont be happy with anything less than a 10 goal win.

I also heard that comment. I hope it burns the players as much as it burnt me.

Richmond deserves and demands no respect at all from opposition sides.

Sides earn the right to have respect, sides earn the right to intimidate and make oppositon nervous.

Even a pathetic rabble such as Fremantle dont have any respect for the RFC.

What's crap is for as long as I can remember I almost have to preempt others & poke fun at myself every time I announce I am a Tiges fan. :-[

yeah i play poker on wednesday nights and the people on my table were caning us... saying how soft we are. of course i jumped in, saying i was a 14 year member, etc, etc. the conversation went from ridicule, to laughing, to plain pity when they heard the depressing tone in my voice.

You know, prior to this year (not sure why it has taken this long for the reality penny to drop for me - that's an issue for my therapist perhaps) I would have been a little p!ssed off about Grant Thomas's comments about the Tiges and how they were a delight to coach and play against...

But I think like you Ian, I know he is right. These guys must salivate when they see us coming up in their draw..
