although tonights game was gut wrenching at best i still wont judge us till the season is over. I'll make my judgement from a seasonal point of view, not match by match.

If we can buck the trend of starting seasons flying then collapsing towards the finish line then we are on the up. Get these rubbish games out of the way now, at the beginning of the year instead of towards the end like we always have and then work hard to improve as the year goes on, NOT the other way round.

in that respect, tonight was the perfect a stepping stone we could of asked for. 100 plus points against us and as insipid performance as the eighties shalackings.

I still believe we will come right towards the end of the season even though the doomsayers are riding high on the coat tails of tonights performance. Out on their horses mustering in the herds of lost souls, trying to gather as many as they can while the pickings are ripe.

Im prepared to relenquish these games now early in the season as long as we can come out of it after the halfway mark on the up. Bulldogs did it last year and god knows they've been on the end of their fair share of humble pies.

who knows IF we get up next week, we'll be sitting 1 and 1 and the premiership favourites will be none and 2.

funny game football.

Re: the perfect start to the season ...

Yes I agree we should be playing a better brand of footy by the end of the season than at the start. Problem is the season is underway but we aren't. I am sweating on how long it will take us to turn around our current Essendon/Bulldogs form.

I think I need to slice open a chicken and consult the oracles... oh, oh that doesn't look good.

Re: the perfect start to the season ...

not sure its a perfect start to the season but i refuse to make any sort of judgement after one game. i do wonder what they have been doing for 6 months however. it was absolutely disgraceful tonight, yes, and i understand the enormity of the despair that some of the threads have expressed. passion and years of no success understandably equate to anger for many. but it is true i think that you learn more in adversity than in any other time. The next few weeks will be interesting to observe.... who wants to be a senior footballer at Richmond? How does the coach go about his business?

We do things on a grand scale at Richmond. thats why deep down we love it. Spectacular lows, and when we turn it around, magnificent highs (here's hopin!). I personally can't do anything except get to the games and continue my support, and have faith that those in charge of winning footy games do just that.

theres always a good point to a game and if we play like that all year we can get the best young tall key position player from the superdraft

blx, I can hope last night's performance and the ensuing fall out will fire the players up and push them onto making a better showing, but aside from '95 that hasn't happened in the last 23 years.

Such a pity they stuffed up the priority pick system before we got to take advantage of it a couple of times like the Dawks did.
Would prefer that this flogging stings a few of our players and the whole bloody bunch of them have a good hard look in the mirror, take a deep breathe and grab themselves a big double handfull from the personal pride basket, and never ever let themselves get flogged like that again.

The Best Possible Start

I have sat quietly and read all the abuse.

Alot of dissapointed people ,yes, so am I.

In the past we have started well and predictably faded year in year out.

I am wrapped that finally this team and mainly senior group will hopefully receive the wake up they have needed for years.
There is no hiding now boys.
No excuses this time.
Now this is the time for our kids to take the opertunity ,knuckle down and start putting pressure on the under acheivers spots in the team.
I am sick to death of inflated egoes and so called potential.
I am not going to single out any one player.
I beleive after beating the dogs in the pre season comp this pack of morons would have gone in over confident in there abilities and expected an easy win.
The luggage in the team probably expected because Brown was back and Lids is a rising star that they could kick back and watch the show and go with the flow.

This could not have been a better start to the season in my opinion.

As results like this promote ,infact force change.

Who cares about the best young tall. Who is gonna deliver it to him? Our weakness is our midfield, our runners. Let's look at recruiting some good on-ballers and if we finish last we must draft the best on-baller. If we had Reiwolt and Barry Hall in our forward line, and Scarlett and Mal Michael in our backline last night we still would have been flogged. The game has evolved and people need to realise that you need 10-12 classy runners out there. We don't even have 3.
