Well,PREnders, another pre-season final......then a week to dust off the scarves,
check the reserved seats and its into another season.
But,one thing that has stuck out to me recently is the emphasis of tyhe AFL on the pre-season as a LEGITIMATE competition, then you hear about teams that supposedly DONT TRY,or just go throught he motions.
In my journey as a footy fan....I thought that the pre-season was nothing more than an opportunity for
coaches and clubs to just blow a few cobwebs out of their players and to give the young *uns a crack...before main bout,as well as playin matches in country areas to give grass-roots fans a chance to see their beloved teams up close and personal.
If the AFL are so bent on makin the pre-season more legit, why not just blow it away and have a 30 game season.......that would be fairer.....I reckon.....50/50
That woukld do away with the likes of Tony Shaw condemning us to the bottom when I reckon
Collingwood and Hwathorn arent in that flash formwise........
Ya dont get a feel for whose gonna be the standout until at least 6-8 weeks into the season I rackon anyway.......
Over to you,PREnders......

I'd be happy to see the PRE season Cup given the boot nitrous. Club's openly admit winning isn't always a high priority and to me it's a bit of an insult to supporters who give up their valuable time and money expecting to attend a genuine contest.

I'm not sure about the 30 weeks though. A long time for footballers to be at peak fitness. Seeing injuries often take their toll at the end of the season maybe one solution would be to increase playing lists if the H&A season was extended.

hallelujia Rosy!
And WHY couldnt they increase the playing lists?I know it costs the clubs money...but this would be compensated by better attendances.......
Games are shorter in duration by an average of 10 minutes a quarter anyway compared to years gone by......and players would need to adapt to the different tempo required to play the games anyway......cheers!

The way they do it in baseball seems to work; they have a pre-season comp but it is called (in my teams case) the cactus league and has rules designed for the pre-season to make it EASIER, not harder, such as unlimited players, rotations and the like. It is not taken the least bit seriously and nor should it be. Either get rid of the pre-season comp or make it purely practice match like. Even better, just START THE SEASON ALREADY!!!
