the purely football ben cousins thread.

I think we all know that Cuz has a hard road ahead of him both getting over his addiction and trying to make it back to somewhere near what he was before. I agree with some others that whilst he has had time out of the game which might be of benefit to him, although those hammies are still a worry. I'll be very happy when he gets through say the the pre-season and first five matches of the fixture before I am confident his body is up to it.

Personally, I'm happy with the addition of Ben to the list. If he can be injury free he will be a fantastic addition to the club. Obsiously this is a purely football related thread so i wont go on to any of the other stuff. But I do have a really good feel about what he can bring to the club and our team. Everyone deserves a second chance.
or in bens case a 10th chance . sorry couldnt help myself.lets face it if he wqs just an ordinary afl player he would have been long gone. his footballing ability has held him in good stead and clubs enthralled even to their detriment. lets just hope taking bc is not detrimental to us.

Cheers claw, look I'm not privy to how many chances he has had (maybe you are) but lets just get behind the team (which includes Ben) and hope that we continue on the upward trend next year mate. I didnt want to get into anything to deep about his addiction on this thread as it is a purely footy thread. Yep i mentioned it briefly but I'm hoping his soft tissue injuries arent going to reoccur. In regards to the other stuff - he is on his last chance. I certainly think he would know that and be all out to help repay the tiges in spades the faith we have shown him. C'mon claw just give the guy a go mate and get behind the clubs decision. :)

I also assume that if he succeeds, then he will get new contracts here and no where else. But it would be interesting to know the contractually arrangements. I guess that they are private. Has the club announced anything? Is it required to lodge individual contracts with the AFL?

Not 100% on this ,but I think 'Cuz'gets base 40-60k and the chance to earn up to about 120k with games played and bonus

I think your on the money as always my man!

He will earn $120,000 which includes match payments if he is to play every home and away game.

$40 - $60,000 base salary will be earnt.

yeah im trying real hard hence i started this thread. hes a marvelous footballer or has been i just get a bit how do you say it temperamental when people say second chances. hes had many hes not on his second.i suppose i was just pointoing out the misnomer. and yeah i agree lets give him the opportunity to show what he can do on and off the field.like the old saying goes if you pull the gun out you had damn well better be prepared to use it.

I also recall that 120K was the figure being mentioned at the time. I find that astonishing, and a bit demeaning. I would have imagined at 250K at least, and even then, perhaps a bit short. For example, how much is Mr Tuck getting? He deserves more, no doubt, but ...

Hey Claw....... can you give us a pure football evaluation on Judd, Cousins and Kerr from what you have seen of them in WA. Compare them to similar players you have seen over the years if you like.

Cousins seems to have been the most popular of the trio among WC Eagles fans(at least until he went off the rails). Why do you think that is?

I think the only possible detriment to us is if he breaks down (fitness wise) we have him on our list instead of one of these players:

1. Jordie McKenzie
2. Liam Bedford
3. Casey Sibosado
4. Wade Thompson
5. Bryce Carroll
6. Jeffrey Gartlett
7. Daniel Murray
8. Robin Nahas

That's the first 8 picks in the rookie draft. It was a pretty good risk to take IMHO.

If he breaks down we can promote Nahas to fill in for him.
The others ??????????????? it's all irrelevant now.

the simple answer to that is no. not any more anyway.

Both Nahas and Cousins will have major impacts for us in 2009!

Nahas by round 10 will be our STARTING small forward.

I'd love to believe you Bob but you told me Meyer would be a tiger superstar.

He is good risk in the PSD (better than the last number 6 PSD pick - Kingsley).

He could play up to 5 years.

I think he could contribute as a small forward as well as an onballer.

In 2009 I reckon he'll play approximately 18 games and be fairly useful as a rotating midfielder. He is similar to Cogs in footy terms in that he may not get back to what he was but he'll still be useful.

I'm looking forward to the half time spew with Cuz.......gotta love a bloke who runs so much he vomits.

I think hes going to tear it up for us.
If i know Ben and i dont, i think he will be doing everything possible to make a strong come back.
