PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Reading the thread on "what we need" and all the discussion about needing an enforcer got me thinking. I pondered the modern game and the place/future of players like Byron Pickett. How do we really measure their value to a team?

When I thought about the tiges, I noted that we've recently had very few reports/suspensions (unlike Essendon) and very few off-field rumours/rumblings (unlike Hawthorn). Could it be that our self-managing player leadership structure is finally getting the issue of discipline in hand? It would appear so. Could you imagine our peril if we had 3-4 out suspended with all those that are injured as well.

There will always be a place for tough men in the team, but what modern toughness is may be changing in definition. You could argue with some justification that Andy Kellaway plays as tough as Pickett.

What ya reckon? Do we have the balance right for the future ... or are we still lacking that nasty edge to needed to get to the top?
