I have always said that Gilmour would not make it from day1!
I just couldnt understand what the club saw in him...i guess they finally opened their eyes.

Crystal Ball, can you tell us whether any of the new recruits will make it? That'll save Terry alot of time.

JON and Hughes will definately make it...the others I havent seen play so will fill you in when I do

read through this whole thread, and it seems nobody knows the true reason he left other than didn't want to seriously compete for a spot on the list.
Is it just me, or does there have to be a better explanation than just this?
i recall a thread about 2-3 months ago where someone seemed to know a lot more but only gave hints, can anyone recall that one? Maybe that person can let us know (they seem to know the situation quite well) without the smokescreen...

i recall that thread, a particular post hinted that he might have a problem with the punt.

As stated at the beginning of this thread, there is/was a multitude of reasons as to why Gilmour is no longer a Tiger. I had not heard of the punt factor, but all in all it seems like a waste. The kid obviously was struggling but I believe that as the youngest draftee in 2003, another year could have been warranted. Geez, he is only 19.

Bad luck to Alex. He was given two whole seasons to prove his worth and didn't show that he was made of the right stuff. Shame really considering how much of a mad tigers supporter he was supposed to be. Remember the boat his family has 'punt rowed' and everything. Would have been good if that dud ex-potato farmer Frawley gave him at least one game to hang his hat on but obviously there were issues with the lad.

People, it is this simple - we all know you gotta take the chances you get in life otherwise it just passes you by.... Maybe young Alex will realise this one day and see he made a terrible mistake. How many of us would love to have had the chance to wear the yellow and black? He had that chance and threw it away...

A player must work around the footy club; The footy club should not work around the player.
Now, where have I heard this before? That's right...something about, not what the country can do for you.

Sorry ... but FIVE pages on this topic?? C'mon peoples!

The boy has been moved on, we need to move on too.

Who cares about the tiny rumoured details on this one?! He never even played a game for us.

Irrespective of the reasons Gilmour struggled in his time at Punt Road (complex and manifold), I'm inclined to believe the reason for his departure was simple- He was given an opportunity to train with the club until the list was finalised and he declined. His choice.

He's just an normal young man who took an comfortable option. Happens all the time. Good luck to him.

You are right, but you have to wonder about the environment he first found himself in as one of the youngest players drafted - a club where the coaching staff knew they were on the way out as well as losing millions of dollars that year - hardly the best situation for a kid that obviously needed a lot more guidance than we were able to provide.

He may be one of those players who may have done better at a more stable club, but that's all history now.........

VFL/AFL football history is full of young kids who could of should of but never did regardless of how rich or stable the clubs background, but as you say. It's all history now.............

Can't believe this thread is still going...what a joke...i mean fair dinkum give me a break..HE's GONE..Full Stop..END OF STORY

It really is starting to sound like a broken down record.....ie. youngest player drafted and so on..I think you will find that the drafting age was raised towards the end of the 90's, remember the times when 15 and 16 year olds where being drafted. Total nonsence using the age argument on poor old Gilmour..he just didnt cut it.

ps. happy new year to everyone ;D

Can I start a new thread on "The real reason/s why Todd Menegola was given the flick" :hihi

I wouldn't have given this bloke the flick yet but this high risk high draft pick has come back & bite us.Should never have been our 1st pick.

Not to mention, White, Ryan, Ednie, Ramsey, Raidis, Hernaman, Haynes and Careless, who all had major impacts on the RFC as young draftees. ;)
