PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

At least we know where we are.

At least we can stop plugging holes and let the whole dam fall apart.

For the past 2 years or so Wallace has overrated our list and had never done a proper rebuild.

In his time here he's topped up with Graham, P.Bowden and Kingsley and kept players such as Stafford, Chaffey, AKellaway, Gaspar, Johnson, Richo etc . on for longer than required. This doesn't sound like a rebuild to me. This sounds like a half arsed attempt to do 2 things at once. That is to try to scavange wins while trying to appear like you are rebuilding. This was never gonna succeed. Some clubs can do this but those clubs have genuine senior leaders - we don't.

Now what do we do? Answer to this is we keep persisting with finding young talent and seeing if they have what it takes. It's a slowly slowly approach but we have no choice. Our rebuild starts now and it'll get worse before it gets better. It'll come at the hands of a few thumpings, but I'll rather this than persist with the same old and scrape a scrappy win here and an honourable loss there.

Another key here is that we MUST also play the percentages on draft day. We must pick the best available at every pick we have, kids that have proven junior credentials and we must steer clear from any speculative picks. We must also try to maximise the number of picks we have every year.

Our footy emotions will HAVE to go into hibernation for a couple of seasons, becasue we cannot demand success right away.
