Not sure if this has been mentioned as yet but tomorrow marks the final time we'll be back at the social club after a game before the wrecking ball comes in.

I'll be happy to see the new facilities emerge but I will miss heading back after a win..............(or mainly losses recently) and going up the grey carpeted steps to the bar.

I'll miss the "50 game gallery" that hangs over the bar that still has Rory Hilton's photo up.

I'll miss the toilet doors that never closed properly when you needed to pay a visit.

I'll miss the P.A. system that usually broke down just before the speeches were made.

I'll miss standing at the window looking over the magnificent Punt Road oval from that end of the ground.

I'll miss the fact that the social club felt like a home for the members to come back to and lick their wounds after a loss or celebrate loudly after a win.

I'm sure the new facilities will be amazing but I will miss the old joint just the same.

Hope you get a chance to have one last sip tomorrow night to toast the end of an era.

Cheers :beer

I won't miss walking up those steps.

i share youe sentiments.

but we have to admit that the standards of the social club and members area could be weeeeeelllllll improved. cant wait to see the more professional looking and new tiger den and social club.

i know they are getting extra booze and security and have prepared for a full house! So all tigers should be there to commemorate and celebrate what is a glorious football club. It wont look the same but itl always be home!!!

Take pics and memories of what has been a long standing fixture on the punt rd horizon.

I wont miss the porta loos tho, or the steps up to the dunnies that are from a 3rd world. . . . eesh . . . .

And i wont miss the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaanka dj that plays overly loud and terrible tunes!

I remember when it was planned, and I remember when it was initially opened.
It was designed and built for the pokies that never got there.

It brings back fond memories of a strong RichmondCC led by Nelson Cox, ably assisted by Perce Hawkins & Reg Sherlock. With George Tribe as head coach, and stars such as Graeme Yallop, Johnny Leehane, Geoff Patterson, Jock Irvine, Jeff Russ, amongst others.

I still remember how despondent we all were the day it was announced that young 21yo batting prodigy Paul Melville had died of a brain haemorrhage.

So many memories of years gone by.

I assume the "walkway of honour" will be delicately uplifted and transported to a new home- I really enjoy a beer in the hand roaming over those pavers!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with you on that one Tigerforce.... :clap

I think it lost a fair bit when the ressies stopped playing there (and stopped smoking as well)

It used to be packed up there, everyone trying to get a seat near the window to see the game.

Once the ressies stopped playing there, everybody just hung out down below....listening to the DJ play Led Zeppelin or Billy Thorpe for the 1000th time... :hihi

A few questions. Why didn't the pokies get there Phantom? Do most other club social rooms have pokies? Do we still have plans for pokies in the social rooms?

I only went in the social club once and was amazed at how dodgy it was. I'd been lined up at the dump to get finals tickets and a friend said they'd mind my spot and kept my membership tickets in case they were needed while I went to watch the game. I had to argue pretty strongly to be allowed in the SC seeing I didn't have my membership ticket. Thankfully a few others came over who had also left their tickets in the queue at the dump too and we were finally allowed in to watch us get flogged up in Brisbane. A lasting memory is how initially unfriendly and agressive the people at the door were. Another lasting memory is how our dreams were shattered and how down everyone was after the loss. We don't get the chance to dream like that too often.

Most of what I said was tongue in cheek rosy, but I have made some lifelong friends in that old building. In fact there will be about 40 of us catching up today, that's more the angle I was going for.

Bring on the new absolutely, I just hope it's not a shell with no soul like the Lex$us centre is.

Being that it's still at our spiritual home will certainly help.

That's the main thing Missing, friendships are more important than surroundings, and I feel that way about the old Northern stand at the G too. I much preferred the red seats and the dodgy facilities than the new modern version. Great character and great memories. Still true friends stick together and we still see several of our red seats friends at the games, meet interstate at times, and keep in touch at Christmas etc. I imagine the social club friendships and passion will create the soul of the new building.

It goes back to the Cricket Club losing its alcohol licence.
Sent the Cricket Club broke.
Couldn't invest in pokies when they became available almost 10 years later.

I don't believe we have plans for such, but I'm not certain about that.
If we did, under current laws, we'd probably have to transfer existing pokies currently residing within municipal boundaries.

The PA had one last yelp in last night there missing, worked beutiful for a start.

what lovely evening for a drink there last night....had friends over from WA they couldnt get over the history....something those WA clubs just dont have apparently.....

Not really bothered with what happens or happened in the Upstairs after a game . It's the people & the party time we had in the Downstairs that really matters to most of us on here. :pooh :hula Everybody's not going to miss those horrible porta-loo's :flush :vomit2

Anything will be a vast improvement over what we've had in the past.
