PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

One definition of Insanity -

Doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result each time.

For this RFC Interstate Member the 2007 year started out very similar to the previous 20 years - interesting stories emanating from deep inside the RFC bunker - that this player was training the house down - that player had put on 8kg of muscle - another had picked up a yard in speed - so an so was going to have his best season yet.

The new boys were fitting in well and the their influence had lifted the older players into a new lease of footy life. The whole team had improved their ball skills and the team was a chance to make the eight.

Up went my expectations - here we go up the ladder where the Mighty Tigers belongs.

Just like previous years my hopes were soon dashed and my expectations blown away with the cold winds off the Snowy Mountains nearby.

Defiantly and diligently I sat and watched every Tigers game telecast live - either on Fox or Free-To-Air - looking for that sign of class - that dash - that one great passage of play - that intimated the Tigers whilst building from the foundations up had the fundemental elements to mold into a real challenge for the flag in the not too distant future. Each game I shuddered at the lack of ball skills - the non-pressured mistakes - I would take the dog for a walk after each game to clear my head of the sadness that was Richmond. (My dog has lost weight and is extremely fit as compared to last summer).

Will next year be the same? Probably - however I do read that the Board of Directors is putting in place a new management infrastructure with new positions being advertised. Coburg our affiliate VFL club did win the VFL Reserves and were runner up in VFL Seniors - memories of the mid sixties come flooding back as we won the reserves one year and the seniors the very next year - maybe we are improving underneath the surface of those lying statistics that say we are not.

My hopes are starting to sparkle that 2008 may not be the same old Tiger process of building up supporters in the pre-season only to let them down by mid-season. Strewth - I am starting early this year it is only October and I getting my expectations up already - I usually wait until after the Christmas/New Year break.

Talk about hopelessly devoted to you! (RFC)

Its been 27 years since I sung our great anthem with gusto in September - alas since then I have been walking, stumbling on the RFC Treadmill - occassionally I have been able to get into a gallop as the treadmill sped the Tigers into the finals but mostly shuffling and stumbling my way to the end of the season.

Ah well! See you on the treadmill again next pre-season........carn the Tigers.....RT
