We don't have a midfield.

That because we dont recruit midfielders, we recruit flankers and try to turn them into midfielders...It doesn't happen. The only one is Foley and he was a rookie list player. With all the early picks we had, a genuine on baller would've been nice.

Spot on, TB.

This section of the infamous JB post regarding the tiger's 2006 draft efforts about Shane Edwards seems particularly relevant.

Not exactly the hard bodied in and under type the Tigers desperately need but one Plough unsuccessfully builds teams around.

The problem here is not the midfield, but Terry Wallace.

Thanks gyps for reminding me of that post. Was a bit of a p!ss take as you know but certainly has a ring of truth to it.

To not tag Stevens with Johnno all game was staggering.

Staggering!

If not him then at least rotate a few others through Stevens.Polo,Newman even Howat.Having Tivendale with him for most of the game was bemusing to say the least.

Tivendale was with Stevens? Don't think he got within 10 meters of him the whole game.

If that's the case then I take back giving Tivendale votes.

I thought Johnson was on him. Well at least he started on him, then I saw Stevens running by himself.

Tivendale was definately on Stevens for most of the match Harry,

I think he moved onto him at around 1/4 time from memory.

Agree Floozy Haze. Tivendale had him for most of the match. Johnson eventually went back onto Stevens with a hard tag in the last quarter (as opposed to the run-off role he performed in the first quarter), but by then it was too late. Not Wallace's best night imo as far as dealing with Stevens was concerned.

(What was that ridiculous report on McGuane for ? What a joke. Didnt even make it to review it was that soft.)

From memory Polak, KK have said that they have never trained so hard before coming to Richmond. So why would we be unfit?

Training hard...... means SFA unless u train smart! Look at brisbane... they had brilliant fitness staff using very clever methods! Yeah they had alot of talent aswell!
West Coast apparently has a really spectactular setup and has a good uni over there which im guessing would help their fitness staff.
Fitness testing and training methods are still relatively not well researched and alot of what does go on is purely on research from soccer and rugby. AFL is not soccer and its not rugby!
Victorian clubs are very far behind in this area and are only now starting to catch up, possibly why we have seen interstate dominace in recent times!

From my observations, Tivendale was only moved onto him because Johnson got murdered in the 1st quarter. Tivendale beat him in the second quarter, but Stevens came back after half time. Johnno's worse game in a Richmond jumper IMO.

I actually think Lids showed something in this game. Obviously I am very much in the minority. I saw one passage of play where Lids got the ball in the stoppage and tried to burst out of the middle using strength and pace. He was reasonably successful in this passage of play. This is what Judd does all the time and for mine was the first baby steps by Delidio on that same path.

He then went off with a corky. What was intersting for me was that I am sure in the third quarter when Wallace was looking for someone to get the side going - I had the impression that Lids would have been in the centre had he been on the ground. First sign of things to come for mine. Not upset that he didn't have thirty possessions. If he can jut start adding these clearances in heavy traffic to his game it is worth ten soft touches being used as a handbag running out of the halfback area like Howat and PBowden.

Interesting isn't it - Foley is fast and a ball magnet. Lids is fast and strong. Both are attempting to carry the ball away from the point of possession using their speed to allow time to ensure a more precise pass rather than an up and under throw on the boot kick as part of the clearance.

I dont think our stop start game plan is helping Brett. If we played a free flowing style it would be perfect for him to use his pace.

I saw that to BS, lids took the ball and just took off i think he got the ball to petts and we goaled.

Once we get a bit of our structure back EG:Simmo & Thursfeild it will allow Polak to move to CHB and Joel onto a HBF therefore releasing Lids to the Midfield and HFF.Im also convinced TW is waiting for Casserly or Jon to getover their injuries and release either Newman or Raines into the Midfeild mix.

Lets hope its not to late

Yeah first bounce of the 3rd quarter Deledio roved the tap burst out of the pack sprinting down the ground and pin point deliver to Pettifer who kicked a goal 20 seconds into the quarter.

Look it was a great center take away but it wasn't pin point passing, it was off the side of the boot, have a closer look.

You gotta laugh. Our happiness with our midfield in the first game has boiled down to one play which we are now reliably informed was off the side of the boot. Easily satisfied are Tiger supporters. Keep the scaps coming - we're desperate for them. :boldyellow

If in fact it was off the side of the boot, how do you know he didn't mean it? And he fired a nice left foot pass to someone later in the game also that I'm pretty sure wasn't off the side off his boot.

Cause I saw it 100 times and he was dragged as he kick it forcing it off the side of the boot...... just wanted to point that out to benny furs!

Yes I saw that left foot bullet pass was next to the pocket the end of the ground I was near - beautiful.... Never said anything about that one, not sure what you meant by it :don't know

My criticism with Deledio is he isn't played in the right position and doesn't work hard enogh to beat a tag or take players on.... I realise he is 19 and we are expecting a lot, bt if everyone is gonna sit back and applaud the bloke for his strenghts we at least have to acknowledge his weaknesses.

Deledio should be played out of the center 100% of the time & the only time he is not is when he is resting on the pine tall quick with good skills must grow to be one of the premier midfielders in the game. Tuck might be better played as a forward takes a strong mark & would put a lot of pressure on any defender. Krakouer should be played in the middle with Foley & Deledio with Johnson tagging or of half back where he can set up play down the ground Krakouer can sense the footy & is a freak at getting out of traffic.
