I think the game against the Pies showed that our three best young players are Foley, Thursfield and Deledio. Both Foley and Thursfield came in as a rookie and spent two years on the rookie list (and King didn't have a bad game either just quietly).

Quite simply, how do we repeat this succes?

Still think there should be a chance to rookie 23yo+ players. Am sure ther are loads out there in VFL/WAFL/SANFL and even local leagues that would have plenty to offer.

Why? If they're good enough you can just put them on a base salary for 1 year through the pre-season draft. I mean generally speaking if you haven't made it to AFL level by 23 you would have been overlooked for at least 15 drafts including National, pre-season and rookie. So you would assume that's enough chances wouldn't you? Not much development left after 23 for a footballer really.

Jake King is a prime example isn't he?

23, put on the rookie list and elevated.

If he didn't make it not a lot of money spent?

We can put older rookies on the list, 1 isn't it?

As long as they haven't been on an AFL list previously. If they were on a list but didn't play a game, they still can't be a mature age rookie - why we couldn't put Podsiadly on our list last year.

We had 6 players on Friday night who came from the roolie list - Foley, Thursfield, King, Howat, Graham and Tivendale.

And we have been close to the last team to see the worth of the rookie list, lack of cash notwithstanding.

I suspect that Andy Collins will continue to use Coburg to develop players for our rookie list, just like he did for Hawthorn. One or two nearly-ready players from Coburg each year is just the medicine that this club needs.

I'm sure there is,we've gotta find them

Neville is probably a good chance to be picked up in the regular draft, so we may not get a chance.

al neville would be a good rookie list pick up at the end of the season

He'll never last til the rookie draft. Will be a late 2nd or 3rd round pick IMO given that this isn't the strongest draft in terms of junior talent.

No chance second or third round. Second round ends at about pick 31, third round at about 47. No chance before then. A 4th rounder maybe.

We should look at him with our 5th rounder - pick around 66.

Our picks might well be 1,17,18,34,50,66. I'd utilise our first 5 picks on kids and then look at Neville.

There should be a rule where clubs have first rights at a player from an affiliate club, and can nominate any draft pick they want, as long as they draft him.

Neville is just about the best player running around in the VFL, a potential ready made AFL midfielder. I just have a feeling that, with the depth of junior talent being a little more risky this year, a club looking to add midfield depth to their list is likely to lock in Neville earlier than a 4th rounder.

BTW, like the idea about the affiliate club priority pick.

TT i will be kind but give you the same answer as i have given this question for the umpteenth time.

TOO SLOW NOT AGILE ENOUGH AND NOT AFL STANDARD thats why he wasnt drafted.
