just did it - crap questions - nuthin bout hands in the back.. except the end "3 things you DISLIKE about AFL"
1 - HANDS IN THE BACK RULE
2 - RULE CHANGES
3 - UMPIRE INCONSISTANCIES

i wish they would leave the *smile* game alone.. if they bring in 3 points for a rushed behind or 'play on' when kicking backwards.. i will... err.. SCREAM and go over to Andrew D and kick him!!!

I'm not sure if it;s deliberate, but they say at the start of the question Section 2 is rule changes in 2007 and what you think. Hands in the back is listed as the second option.

Then under section 2, there is an question a), c) and d).

b) is missing, this would be for hands in the back.
You could add your own comments later on in the survey, I made sure they knew what I thought of hands in the back there. I also called them cowards for omitting that section from the questionaire. They know they're wrong, they're gutless though and don't want to admit it.

I noticed that as well and called them on it to.

I think this is more to give the AFL some "people power" justification for their final decisions. use the stats that come up to say "we did what the people wanted" when people start spitting chips.

Loved no comment on Hands in the Back, and no comment on "why cant we just leave the game alone".

Its actually standard corporate procedure in quality assurance, wherein your required to guage "customer satisfaction"

Aware of that Skull, but everything about the AFL for the past few years has been about TV audiences and perception. Just look at the management of things like the hands in the back rule. You disagree with it and Adrian Anderson and KB call you ignorant and say you dont know what you are talking about. They dont care about supporters, just ratings (which surprises me because you would think the two are connected ::))

yes the two are connected Tiger74

but one important thing to realise is that Australia is a small country with a small population base and therefore limited economic capacity to support sporting codes.

Aussie rules is ONLY professionally played here, so it is VITALLY IMPORTANT that AFL has great ratings, otherwise the corporates all jump off and start spending their money on the Soccoroos and the A league or NRL or whatever else has international exposure.

You would do well to remember this and respect the fact that without ratings and corporate support there will be no AFL at an elite level and all we will be left with is local footy.

The sooner there is a team in South Africa the better, and hopefully the D's will start making in-roads in China. The game will die and our unique culture will go with it unless it expands.

No argument mate, and if you read my previous posts you would know I am one of the more pragmatic on the issue of promotion/exposure/marketing here.

My main concern is you need a healthy core for any support base, and some of the stuff the AFL is doing these days is p1ssing this core off. I think they have taken it for granted that the core will support their AFL side no matter what, but in these days of the Melbourne Victory doing well and even the Storm slowly building, they cannot take this core support for granted.

Hands in the back, poor scheduling, lack of transparent drug testing, inconsistent penalties, lack of professional umpires, and dominance of the $$$ teams are all little things in isolation, but if not managed well, they will disenchant many, and drive them over time away from the game.

Personally I think the AFL ruled in the 90's and beginning of this decade. I do think however some recent issues (Ben Cousins and Rules Committee in particular) have taken the AFL's eye off the ball.

Good one Tiger74, true I'm only on here every second weekend so its hard to keep up with all the posts!

a careful balancing act isn't it keeping a eye on the corporates and one on the core support as both are requiered for a success

did you hear Patrick Smith and KB on SEN during the week? they were asking for calls on what were the untouchable attributes of the game. A very important discussion point I think.

I'm not one to say the rules shouldn't change however, as the history of our game is one of rule changes and over the last 150 years, the world hasn't stood still either!

No issue mate, just wanted us on the same page.

Heard some of the KB/Fat Boy discussion. I liked the answers given by callers, many trying to make the point to the two that they are out of touch.

On rule changes I agree in principle, but also with Bucks. We need 1-3 years of stability, because we have made a lot of changes in recent years and need to let things settle down.

The survey is available now if anyone wiches to use it

Interesting that this is what appears in the summary at the top

Section 2 - Your feedback on the 2007 Rule and Interpretation changes:
- Head over the ball
- Hands in the back
- Dangerous tackles
- NAB Cup rule changes

But when you get to Section 2, B is mysteriously missing. I'm sure this is just an accidental oversight. :-\

Irritating since this is the law I have the strongest opinion about.
