PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Pro-Stats have finally aired the stats for Friday nights game to the public.
It bears out what many of us thought. That the Tiges just weren't prepared to run with or at the ball, and were unprepared to back each other up with assisted running.

The very last stat, bounces, bears it all out. They had nearly 3 times as many bounces as we had. They were prepared to run with the ball, and had assistance to backup those running with the ball.

The other area was 1st possies & clearances, they killed us. Basically they were more hungry for the ball, they were prepared to back themselves with the ball, and they were prepared to back each other up.

Notice the margin for error between the teams wasn't so great. But they backed each other up, so their errors didn't hurt. We didn't back each other up, so our errors hurt.

Honestly, the coaching staff needs to review this backing-up/run-with area of the boys training. You play like you train, and it's not happening on the field. It hasn't for a long time. My guess is that it is absent from training too.

Our rebounding out of D50 were almost the same, but they had 50% more I50s than we did. We had almost double the I50s per scoring shot.

To me, this all points to the one thing. We had individuals running alone out of defence. They had players in packs running out of defence. Its basic training. It was when I was a boy. It's what Tommy Hafey made great, running in packs. Either the boys are not being taught it properly, or they're not being taught it at all.

This area needs immediate attention. It is the basis of team play, something we are clearly missing.
