The Strength of Hawthorn's list

FWIW I reckon Boyle is a better player than he shows, Kev (still think he's an incurable underachiever). But if the Hawks can get that deal over the line surely Richmond can get Brock McLean for #18. ;D

Its all about supply and demand, Dyer'ere.

No way known is Boyle worth a straight out first rounder, but for the Bulldogs - in their current situation (and allowing for what else is available) - he would be worth reducing the first rounder.

The Hounds' best bet would obviously be to make a play for Fevola with the straight pick 5.

I think Carlton will keep Fevola, however, and once that happens - who else of note is available to provide the Bulldogs with a tall forward with strong marking and straight kicking capacity?

Remembering the Hounds have just lost Darcy; have axed three talls in Walsh, Pask & West; and are unsure as to what Grant will do.

They could make a play for some young promising types (ie Mitchell Clark from Brisbane), but I doubt they could get them, and even then they're still a bit raw to meet the demands of what the Bulldogs need over the next two years.

Boyle for the top side, with another young tall prospect snared with pick 12 to bring on over the next few years would be a good option for the Hounds, considering their current circumstances and the mess they've got themselves into with their KPP stocks.
if their window of opportunity is the next 2 yrs one player springs to mind. richardson. anyway the dogs have a fair bit of building to do.

I haven't read this thread but just glanced at the heading and thought it said The stench of Hawthorn's list. I reckon it smells ok. :hihi

What if injuries hit?

They did.

Look at CHB. Hall's absence left the Grand Canyon.

Look at the rucks: When Simmons & Knobel were out, well, ......

Spot on Phantom, but have you heard of a bloke called Coughlan:-) Brown was a little slow of the mark as well.

Whis is it that we always seem to suffer injuries to key playes.

everyone has injury's its how well you can cope with it that seperates you from the rest

williams and bailey went down early but the hawks still had a mountain of options, simmo went down and we were crippled

thats the difference
It wasn't just Simmo, it was 2 of the back ups in Knobel and Hall, plus Sraff had retired, that left us with a 3rd year player who isn't even being groomed as a ruckman to play the role. For Gods sake we were using Tuck to pinch hit at times. The midfield had 2 players: Tuck (who can't kick under pressure) and Foley (who was brilliant), no Brown in the forward line. The club lacks class players at the best of times, take 3 of the best out and was it really any surprise that the season was shot by the halfway mark?
wouldnt call hall and knobel class players battlers at beststaffords been gone 2 yrs and was way past it when he did retire.in essence no brown who we have hardly had on the park in his time at the club no simmonds.no richmond how pathetic .

once again i will state with retirements we are effectively down to 11 talls. 5 of which you would hope to replace in time with better more rounded players.
so imo we have 6 talls worth keeping and only 3 of those are currently up to afl standard.

atm we have 2 genuine ruckmen ones a bloody rookie for gods sake. so ineffect one ruckman. we dont have a genuine chb or fb. thursfield in time may be capable of filling one of these positions.

atm we dont have a chf riewoldt hughes maybe in time. atm we have one ff richo at 32 hes not got long to go.

when developing a list im a firm believer that 18 to 20 talls are a minimum the vast remainder should be onballers. just on onballers mids.imo we have just 10 and once again i theres a few i would replace in time.

ive been going on about this for yrs and ever since i joined this site. its good to see a lot of ferals here are starting to see what the problems are.

the question that now remains is how do we go about fixing the list and its many gaping holes and how long will it take. ive already stated we will finish bottom 2 next yr imo it will take at least 2 drafts to clean out the deadwood and 3 drafts to get some structure. so maybe 2011 to scrape into the 8 so thats the time frame covered. how do we fix the list. well obviously talls in particular and inside onballers have to be targeted. imo first round picks should go on best available.this yr it should be an inside player. from their where practical talls should be targeted. we should be targeting 2 players in the trade psd period no one over 24. we should be looking to utilise a full rookie list the most of who should be ruckmen and kpp.

this yrs draft could go something like this.

2 cotchin masten or ebert. best available and we fill our onball need.
18 sullivan thats one promising ruckman who is worth that pick or there abouts.it would also depend on what quality is there abouts.
19 pears collier. 33 boumann tarrant notte. meyer. 51 one of kangars simpson or stewart all talls all fill a need and all imo would go around those picks regardless.

psd bets player available (judd) :help and one other maybe. trade for one or two of onballer ruckman kpp.again noone over 24.
