The Swans vs Roos match will prove costly

I actually think the last 60 seconds of the saints game was more costly.

Kel Moore's shot that hit the post
The time-keeping blunder that cost us 15 seconds
Jack's shot after the siren that didn't quite make the distance.

You can only hope that the team learn's to make the most of it's opportunities. Had we beaten the doggies and saints, not only would we play finals, but we would have beaten three top 8 sides.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

If the captain calls for a head count this is correct. Herein lies why the AFL chose to leave the result as a draw.

The rule also said (back then) the opposing Captain has to call for a head count - if that proves the transgressing team has too many players than allowed then their score is reset to zero.

As the Saints Captain did not call for a head count there was no way the AFL could penalise Sydney and stay within the laws of the game let alone the spirit of the laws of the game.

I reckon if you want to have a good whinge we should include -

1. An unfair and bias draw that always gives Collingwood an edge on us
2. Umpires who look after what everybody classifies as the good sides and penalise the not so good sides
3. Richmond bashing in the media which must play on our players minds
4. Our feral supporters who abuse players that wear the yellow and black

For heavens sake let us stop whinging about our ladder position the fact is we are not in the finals because under the current rules of the AFL we were not good enough.

This year appears to be another stepping stone on the way to being a good AFL side - will this mean we make the finals in 2009 - maybe - maybe not - but we are starting the 2009 season off in a better position that what we started 2008 off in - which augurs well for a chance at September 2009 action.

Oh poor us....we are so hard done by. ::)

If we should whinge about the fans, then we should whinge about the supporters who treat the players like gods, accept mediocrity and therefore give the impression that near enough is always good enough.

Simple fact is we are not good enough FULL STOP. No excuses.

Everyone I know thinks that losing your total score because an extra player was accidentally on the ground for 30 seconds is complete overkill. It is (was?) an antiquated rule that has no place in today's game. I would be a little embarrassed if the Tigers had made the finals ahead of Sydney on that basis.
