I don't know what it is about the Telstra Dome, but everytime we seem to go there in a game that matters, we seem to go down in a screaming heap or by some quirky sequence of disastrous events pull defeat from the jaws of victory. When we win, it's a game that means little (e.g. pumping of Brisbane Lions by the Bowden Brothers). What's worse, our best players seem to have (sometimes) freakish season ending injuries at this venue. Is this place cursed for us, or do I need to get a grip?

Let me recap ....

In case you weren't watching on the weekend, Moore misses from 25m out with a hook I usually see when standing on the golf tee and the timekeeper forgot what the "START/STOP" button means

earlier....

The Bulldogs kick over 3 goals in about 3 minutes of actual play late in the 4th quarter, to tie a game where the bloke who marked the ball found himself afflicted with some type of 20 minutes leg virus.

And from the vault

2000
- We go down to Freo by a point, from memory Richo hurts his foot and is out for the season. I think an obvious free to Knighter is missed
- Later the same year, Dragicivec misses an absolute sitter and the Crows kick a goal on the rebound and a couple in the last few minutes to let us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
- We go down to Sydney by a point putting us out of the finals yet again in 9th and I think 12 wins. Chaffey's bouncing goal from the middle of the ground counts for nothing but a nice bit of commentary.
2003
- We hit the lead against Geelong mid-season in an effort to get final's back on track. Wayne Campbell jumps to celebrate, snapping his achilles tendon. Geelong get the ball up the other end and kick a goal where the ball somehow touches (Chapman's) last stud on the bottom of his boot giving them a narrow victory.
2005
- Browny snaps his leg in half
- A few weeks later we get the top of the table clash with Melbourne and all their stars are kicking goals from everywhere (Davey, Yze, assholes) completely pantsing us in front of the National Audience and beginning our plummet in the land of crapness
2006/7
- The hundred point smackings Sydney, Western Bulldogs and Geelong
Other Fun Memories
- Night Grand Final Against Port
- North Melbourne having the captain's brother's son's dog's postman's pet duck celebrate his testimonial / come back hurrah / birthday surprise event and us going down every time in the middle of the year when we needed a win.
- St Kilda thumping the crap out of us every year
- Knee Recos - Thursfield / Gaspar (I think)
- Not that it mattered, but when they were ultra crap, Carlton beating us and getting out of the wooden spoon

The only really worthwhile win was in 2001 against the Bullies in the revenge match after Knighter got decked which sealed our place in the finals. Unfortunately I was interstate, and luckily Bourke didn't get pinged for an obvious push in the back..! I also enjoyed when we pumped Port after they had lead by 5 goals with Andy Kellaway getting a goal in the last quarter and the coaches box enjoying it.

So there it is, why I hate the Dome. So are we cursed ..... ? Did I miss something?

Cheers, great post you nailed it brother, so many memories, but mostly bad. This thread could take me weeks to answer. :hihi

I can't stand the place (Telstra Dump)

Yeah our record there totally sucks

I do remember the EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY GAME against the dogs 2001, I remember Patrick Bowden being shattered by the loss.

And the port game, was this the one where Stafford took a mark and the whole coaching box went up with laughter, as they had a bet he would kick one.

Yeah the injuries at this place have been horrid, they should bull doze the place down and start again :hihi

Bloody soft Bummers and Saints, dogs who need to play under the safety of a roof, bloody softies. :cutelaugh

I have asked the question as to why we are still playing home games at this glorified basketball stadium many times.last year when we played the demons there, how silly.Turn it into a CBD landfill site.

Same game.

I'd clasify the Adelaide game as a memorable moment ... The basketball game.

I hate the flood THAT much, it made me chuckle to see Joel and Patrick do that to the Crows.

And the first of those heritage round games against the Aints where we wore the vertical stripes jumper and so did they and we got hammered. I can still here those bloody Aints supporters giving it to Richo as everything went wrong for him that night. I couldn't even make a peep because the Tiges gave nothing for me to give it back to them with. Mate I am still scarred and I hated losing to them again on Saturday night.

I'm not superstitious but I have to go along with the first option.

Let's try to get more MCG home games when North takes up more No-Dome games at the end of their Carara contract.

Yes, generally bad things happen to us at the dome, but I remember some good times as well.

Richo's 200th V Port was at the dome when we smashed 'em by 9 goals and Richo took a screamer just before half time to put us in front!

Same year second last round I think V Hawks when they were 40 points up and Petticoat kicked a goal from 1 metre out to put us in front with a minute to play!

:hihi

i thought browny smashed his leg...well matthew whelan smashed his leg.... at the mcg not telstra? happy to stand corrected if i've got it wrong.

The Tigers suck at the dome quite simply cos they have in the side dumb footballers and footballers who lack skill in disposal.

The Dome allows perfect conditions where top skills will carve up opponents hence the Tigers on the recieving end more often than not

Great day!

Brown broke his leg at Telstra.

I also remember Dragacevic doing his knee twice at Telstra, and I think Leon Cameron broke his arm there as well.

O'Loughlin ducked and weaved past three Richmond players and snapped a miraculous goal which effectively cost us a place in the finals. McCartney hello/goodbye and Gaspar knee were the same match.

yeah-Draga doing his knee twice.
Chris Hyde getting head smashed in, then in his comeback game that dog Burton tried to belt him.
Browny's leg.

Hate the place.

Remember top-of-table Port beating us the day after Captain Blood died only by 4 or so goals and Mark Williams being asked why they didn't sing their (crap) song...and him saying that they only sing it when it means something ie when they actually beat a good footy team.

The banner that day was fantastic..."Heaven's football team can now take the field; Your Captain has arrived"

Richo's 200th was fantastic...they were 5 or so goals ahead and Tuck ran down and tackled (maybe a cornes?) brilliantly in the centre of the ground...we went forward and goaled, and then went beserk. Richo took a speccy and goaled to put us ahead on half time, and we ended up winning by 5 or 6 goals.

I still hate the place...

Well it's up to us to turn out in numbers that make playing there impossible.

Hopefully things are turning and supporters will come back in droves ensuring that the AFL can't fixture games at that sh!thole, and that we get a run of 18 games at the G like those bloody mugpies do.

Yeah I'll never forget that. Always thought that ugly Williams was a tosser. That day just confirmed it. Hated his guts ever since.

Disrespectful pr!ck. :veryupset :veryupset :veryupset
