Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Rhett congrats on the book, i bought my father a copy for Christmas, Dad is certainly not what i would called a reader, struggles to flick thru the HS. Anyways he has now told me for the 8th time how much he is enjoying it & how he is motoring thru it, dont think he has ever read thru a book so quick. Great job & on behalf of all tiger fans thankyou.

New York, I just need to sell another milion and ill be on the NY Best Seller list

The Lurker- i am really glad he likes it.
He would have probably seen the glory days of the 60's so know doubt saw alot of the players interviewed played

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Rhett,

Did you do any other interviews with past / present players that were not included in your book?

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Great question Nwonash
I did interview around another 20 players who did not make the final book. They included Bull Richardson, Len Ablett (all though he appears in Dyer section) , 1930's player Pat Davey, Bill Roach etc

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

From my memory it was a space issue.
Plus we had difficulty sourcing pictorial material of him. As you know Bull is a very quiet man, so he keeps to himself,
However his material may appear in a later version or online.
He did appear on the inside cover holding the Song Lyrics though

I hope you enjoy the book.
I might start a small poll about , whcih chapter you enjoy the most

Good idea Rhett.

I haven't read it all yet but my favourites so far are Tony Jewell, KB the player and St. Francis.

I'll probably re read a few chapters before I could submit a vote. :)

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Of course, Bull isnt in that photo
He was in a simliar one that didnt make the book.

Oh I am glad you liked tony Jewell.
Certainly a character and his Alby Pannam story is a classic

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Rhett, well done on a terrific book. I love it.
Any chance that any of the proceeds might go to maintaining this site?

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Just picked it up today. Thanks for all the hard work Rhett, really appreciated by some of the die-hards.

Haven't read too much of it yet but am sure I will enjoy reading about "The Big Fella" and things such as the Pitura saga.

Some of the photos throughout are great, and the copy of the famous Royce Hart letter. Definitely have some great reading ahead.

Cheers

what's wrong with that? I expect that Rhett is really pleased with how the book is going and sites like this are all part of the wider, bigger Tiger picture.

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

I just feel it's not OK to target individuals for contributions to the site when they all have options to contribute irrespective of how they earned the income to contribute.

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

I'm sure Rhett is rapt how the book is going and I am sure he appreciates how much we are all enjoying the book.

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Thanks for that.:)

If it makes you feel any better Rosy will be receiving two copies of the book to give away on the board :)

And there is a book signing schedule for early Feb with more details soon :)

Rhett

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Hi Rhett,
Again my hearty congratulations.

The book was an enjoyable read but my only minor disappointment was that there was not a piece on Maurice Rioli.
Being named in the Indigenous team of the century is no mean feat and I would have thought worthy of a special mention.
Maurice was widely regarded as one of the greatest Aboriginal footballers to play the game.
Any reason that he was not mentioned a little more?

Perhaps in an updated version you could expand a little further on this great Tiger.

Well done Thanks again

ToO :)

Re: Richmond History Book - 'The Tigers' [Merged]

Rioli was the last truly great player we had. I think Brown is the best player since Maurice and the only other one who is close would be Richo. Long time between drinks! :(
