Hi Guys,

As a first point I abhor the concept of "tanking" for draft picks and under no circumstances should we not attempt to put a winning team on the park and try to win every game.

In addition we shoudl cherish teh jumper and shouldn't give out senior games unless they are deserved (although some, including myself are of the opinion that we have been doing that for years Krak, Tiv, Fleming, Nichols the list goes on).

Nevertheless it is the responsibility of the selection committee and the coaches to act in the best interests of the club going forward. For mine this would entail the following:

(1) Get the most number of senior games experience in those players that we believe are part of the future.

To me that means that:

Cleve Hughes should start the next seven weeks at full forward (IMO shows more than Jay *smile* already
Jack Reiwoldt should start either at CHF or as the third tall for the next seven weeks

The Way Forward

Dear All,

IMHO the coaches and the rest of the club should now make decisions that are in the long term interests of the club going forward. I do not believe in tanking but I think that we should either give senior games to those players that are clearly part of the future or who we need to get a line through.

In my opinion this means:

(1) Cleve Hughes hsould play the next seven games at FF (showing more than *smile*)
(2) Play Jack either at CHF or as a third tall
(3) Give Edwards game time
(4) Give Connors at least one game for a taste ( looks a lot like a young Nathan Brown for mine)

From what I have seen they are clearly part of the future.

In other moves I think that we should:

(5) Send Tambling back to Coburg to find some confidence and form
(6) Stick Meyer in the ones for the next seven games so we know the future. In addition FFS Terry he is not a natural ball winner and never will be. His best game for the club was at Geelong a copule of years ago as a HBF where the ball comes to him. He is quick and not a bad tackler and so should be okay. In addition I would give him the responsibility of kicking in as he is a beautiful disposer of the ball.

(7) Hartigan probably should be given at least two or three more games but he was dire against the Dawks and his disposal will never hurt another club.

I am sure there are other changes that need to be made but these would be a start.

Thoughts people.

Re: The Way Forward

I think the only way to gain some valuable improvement for the future is to play those kids you mentioned in the last 7 games.

Doubt it will happen though.

Re: The Way Forward

1. Way forward unfortunately make a big call and swap Shane Tuck for a pick or trade him for a ruckman. Never goin anywhere with a player who cant kick at all!! BIG STEP FORWARD. With him Krak, Moore & Hartigan.

Re: The Way Forward

Also the way Terry has been coaching especially earlier in the year with this defensive chip chip crap has perhaps indicated that Terry does not have alot of faith in the skill of alot of the players which is evident but he is also bereft of ideas and has no plan b. This massive type of flooding game merely masks how far behind we are in terms of rest of the competition as we tend to lose games narrowly or generally within a 5 goal margin and gives the impression that we are making progress. Terry then puts his positive spin on it when really as I said no plan B no confidence in the boys skills hence we gave up substantial leads to Carlton Collingwood Essendon Fremantle. Terry needs to improve the players skill. Implement drills under match conditions to focus the lads on using the footy right as well as educating them on correct decision making both when under pressure and when we are uncontensted. As far as I am concerned Terry's theory of plan of 100 points on avg a game is out the window. As coach he needs to formulate a game plan or game plans that he would like his team to play under certain match conditions and recruit players that fit the criteria within that game plan not whoever is available at that point in time and we snap them up to either prevent someone else getting them or mask the recruit as progress is being attained. Terry needs to recruit a recruiter or talent scout that will scour the country to find players that fit his game plan. In terms of preparation we are way behind interstate teams and perhaps luring people from Port or WC might be the go as those teams tend to have winning cultures and tend to pluck out gems eg Westhoff Cox from obscurity. We could learn from expertise and input like that. Club needs to think outside the square rather than persist with conventional/traditional practices that are now antequated and cumbersome.

Re: The Way Forward

Terry you need to do the following:

1. get the players fitter
2. get the players harder
3. stop playing loose men and become more accountable
4. teach the young players how to play man on man
5. remove bowden, richo & johnno from key posts (play on wings or flanks) and develop the kids in the key spots
6. trade bowden, tuck, kraka,
7. delist tivendale, hall, knoble, hartigan, moore
8. recruit hard/tough players
9. recruit players with footskills
10. stop talking spin to the media and just coach

Re: The Way Forward According to Peaka

*smile* should be FB
Polak should be an accountable CHB
Pattison should be CHF
Hughes FFD

edwards, riewoldt, white, foley, meyer should all be picked for the remaining 7 games

richo, brown, johnno, bowden can play in minor roles/positions

Tango I ca agree on Johnson, but at the moment we have no one within a bulls roar of Richo, Brown or Bowden.... You have to earn the spot first.

Did i not say to trade him 2 years ago.
Now you all want to get rid of him.

Re: The Way Forward

A couple of things.

The man behind the ball crap is because with Simmons still unfit for the majority of the season we haven't had first use of the ball and Polak is good enough to be on the park but hasn't been ready to go one on one with a top line player.

I wonder if Tuck is like Rodan. Rodan needed another year to get back as knees often require. Tuck needs another quality centreman to take the heat off him. We have so few good players and ballwinners that it makes the opposition's game plan so easy to write.

Re: The Way Forward

Id go the other way with the kids.Play them all at Coburg. At this stage of their development a winning culture amongst themselves is far more important.
Reward them rnd 1 next year

No, I don't want to get rid of him.

And Howat should get a contract extension based on his current form don't you think.

For me I'm undecided on Tuck. If a suitable trade came up I would take it, but I think he is worth hanging onto if not. I would like to see him given a go playing as a forward. He is a pretty good mark, (can take contested marks), and he seems to kick better for goal than around the ground trying to hit targets. He is also hard at the ball - something another forward is not!

get rid of Tuck, who's going to help Foley, Cogs (if he comes back). We need him and we need to build up on mid fielder stock. Tuck is more of a player than Hyde, Hartigan.

Hey Peaka

You want to stop the business of handing out senior games to players who haven't deserved them...

And then you give us a long list of players who should play the rest of the season to see what they're made of.

Not consistent.

The way forward is to keep doing what Terry's been doing; giving the kids games when they prove themselves in the twos, and dropping players when they fail in the ones. The twos are doing very nicely thank you, which suggests that many of the young guys are coming along OK.

Terry says he was happy with Shultz's game last weekend; couldn't get enough of it because of the supply from midfielders. A stint in the twos has made him a bit hungrier, let's hope it continues. That's how to build the team.

At the end of the year, some of the young guys (Hartigan?) will be cut because they're not up to it. So we find some new talent and keep developing what we have.

It's painful being patient, but there's no real choice if you want success.

well your opinion doesnt mean much to some mate... honestly wats wrong with tiv and fleming was a guy who maybe didnt have the excellent skills but boy did he try alays giving 100% thats more than i can say for some !! dont bag out old or older players!!

Tucky is spent most of the time, i think he will benefit alot with Cogs back.

Word has it that Cogs is champing at the bit to get back.

if we can find another extractor then all the better. Cogs, Tuck, Foley and .....
