BUT in Frawley defence he did get us to 3rd (Perlimenary final) with the list he had 2001. That was the 2nd time since 1982 ! He did also get us in a Night Grand Final in 2002.
You are only highlighting how bad Walls and Gieschen were

People were saying the same about Hawthorn a few years ago. Now look at them.

Next year may be a bad one but 2009 will be the begining of something very good.

Geelong were also able to trade players for decent draft picks. Who have we got to trade??
perhaps hawthorn had a reasonable core. they have been down since 2001. in 99 they finished 9th 2000 6th and 01 4th they missed a gf by nine points. in 01 they traded for hodge which was the start of things.
at the end of 04 before he haseven participated in a draft clarkson had players like bateman boyle. brown. campbell. clarke. crawford croad. dawson. dixon. hodge. jacobs. ladson. mitchell. osborne. sewell. smith. taylor vandenburg and williams. thats 19 player most of who pretty well played most of this yr. throw in thompson everitt barker hay and clarkson had a reasonable base to start from. wallace by comparison well look it up for yourselves at the end of 04 there was only about half a dozen i would have kept.

The year was 1999 and Jeff Geischen as Richmond coach finishes another dissapointing year in 12th position.

And just as most of our coaches since 1981, a knee jerk reaction by our board ended another coaches tenure.

Out of interest, are you saying it was a BAD decision to get rid of Da Geisch? :rofl

Here here, when are people going to realise its hawthorns core players 23 to 28 yr olds which are winning them games....with all our injuries this year we relied to heavily on the younger guys IE: foley, lids, thursty, bling, patto, polo (early) etc etc they are all about 20 or 21, over the next few years these guys will be our leaders and with all the up and comers on our list they will be our neclues and finally the puzzle will be put together, only 20 odd years in the making....Some will say we hope! Well at least i can actually see the puzzle being put together.

I just can't see any light at the tunnel any more. I can't get excited about promising young players because they hardly ever live up to the potential they show. There seems to be this culture at the club that drags them down. Our coach seems to have lost his passion. It just appears that no matter what Richmond try or do it's just destined to fail. I used to hope that we'd win a flag one day, now I just hope we can survive.

Keep the faith CTT, i feel it, just like the hawks we will rise, ask hawk fans over the last few years how they felt...Please dont say ask us tiger fans over thel ast 20 years how we feel...The thing of the past is we always seemed to trade away our early pics and stuffed up a few a long the way but these days especially the early pics u must hold on to them and re-build unless ur talking for instance trading for a chris Judd.

I disagree on ur comments re: Wallace, he wants success for Richmond and i truly believe he is passionate about coaching and he will get us there.

Astute tiger i hope you are right because i feel like most tiger supporters-lost and no future.

It starts with the coach and i am tired because i have written up so much about him. Its all spin

I generally got excited when i went to family day this year but history will show we finished LAST and our worst season ever.

Lets see

the comparison between us and geelong from 99 to now is exactly the reason why terry uses them as an example we have to follow.
not an example of their game plan or anything, but how they had a plan and stuck to it no matter what.
and when geelong had a bad season last year, and a not so good start to this season they could have sacked thompson easily.richmond most definitely would have.
but they stuck together and look what happened.

if that was richmond we would have gone for the quick fix and we would have missed out.

No T74, he and the previous however many coaches starting with Tommy Hafey were all given the boot prematurely.

In the first place the Great T-shirt Tommy should have coached us well into the 1980's, imagine what he would have done with the 1980 team! We probably would have had another 2 or 3 flags.

From his sacking in 1976 he went on to get the mugpies into the 1977,79,80, and 1981 Grand Finals and though they didn't win any it showed he still had what it takes.

Tony Jewell after winning the flag in 1980 got the boot at the end of 81 and Frances Bourke after getting to a GF in 82 gets the boot a year later, then the rest is an absolute mess.

It shouldn't have come to this, things should be way different.

What a *smile* mess 1983 to 2007 has been!
