PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

The year was 1999 and Jeff Geischen as Richmond coach finishes another dissapointing year in 12th position.

And just as most of our coaches since 1981, a knee jerk reaction by our board ended another coaches tenure.

Enter Danny Frawley, after an extensive search for a new coach (or in other words a full on attempt at luring Kevin Sheedy again), meanwhile across at sleepy hollow Geelong who were in deep deep financial do do, finished one place above us and secured their new coach Mark Thompson.

Frawley it seems was the only prospective coach who would take us on. Thompson wouldn't have a bar of us, in fact wouldn't even meet with the club.
Both first time coaches.

7 years on and Thompson is still coaching Geelong, won the flag today by a record 119 points, meanwhile Richmond has yet another coach, is rebuilding again, and finished stone motherless last in what could easily be argued as Richmond's worst ever season.

Did Geelong bottom our in these 7 years?......No, worst finish 12th in '01 and '03.

So while the Cats revel in a year that will go down in history as one of the most dominated in the VFL/AFL, Richmond supporters on PRE talked about tanking to get better draft picks because it's what this club has created.

A culture of complete ineptness and desperation.
