PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Last week saw Gas moved on and Tivva dropped. Neither had the worst form in the team by a long shot but a statement was being made. I found it quite bizarre considering we were't even a quarter of the way into the season and I think looking at results it's not too far-fetched to say the policy backfired. ( Not sure if Krak was dropped due to injury or form so can't really comment on that one.)

We'll miss 3 players through injury this week, Tambo, Simmo and Jay? and it's been reported 3 more could be dropped as well. That's really going to test the youth policy.

Kent is 28 and will possibly come in but that kind of makes a mockery of Gas and Tiv's situations. I'd say Tiv will have to come in but what was gainsed by dropping him when his form hadn't been that bad. Not sure if Will is ready to come in but if he does I feel for him. The only players I can think of who Terry thinks equal Gas' form and ability are him and Will and to be honest I think that puts unfair pressure on them. Despite any perceived failings and being in his dotage nobody comes near Gas in the position he played.

I'm dead against a youth policy as such. Players should never be dropped because of their age. Drop them on form by all means but it doesn't send a good message to the rest of the team if players can't get a spot because they're nearing the end of their career but lesser performed kids are selected due to their age.

The above scenario is applicable when you're in the latter rounds of the season and languishing at the bottom of the ladder but we were at the start of the season, admittedly at the bottom of the ladder but a win or two could have changed that rapidly.

It will be interesting to see if we stick to the youth policy or whether older players get a call up this week.
