PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

After watching a series of games this year, we can often see the same story in the midfield. We mainly lose the tap outs and the opposition clear it far more than we do. When we do clear the ball, 9 times out of ten it falls in the hands of young Axel, who has played a leading role all year. But, there is one player missing that would make a hell of a difference. A player that releases, creates and wins the ball from the centre and thats Mark Coughlan.

No offence to Foley, but he hasnt got the vision or football brain that Mark Coughlan has, to become a "deadly" centre clearance player. Like Shane Tuck, its just get it and get rid of it, but when Coggy puts his hands on the ball he looks and has poise.

I saw glimpses of Brett Deledio putting the hands up in a tackle and feeding the hands off, but that doesnt happen often enough in his game.

As much as people like to say he is finished and we should trade him, think again, because a player with his values cant be taught to do what he does. It comes from the lower ranks and that is hard to find. Scott West, Sam Mitchell and Simon Black are probably the best players in the competition at this. If Coggy was still on his feet, he wouldbe up there with them.
