This only counts as a new topic in off season- Silvester.

One concern, amongst many that I have with Carroll, is that he would be new to Richmond, Wallace, the boys & our style of play. Arguably, it might take him 6 months to get up with it all.
With Silvester, he's been at Coburg for the long term. They play the way Richmond play. He's already played with McGuane, King, Moore, et al, around him.

Again, personally, neither Silvester nor Carroll have a long term future at Richmond. Silvester is already here, Carroll is still outside.
yeah but carroll has shown he can play at afl level silvestor has not and is not likely to. i dont want either but i cannot fathom why we would keep silvestor for anyreason.

Fair enough, not saying you're wrong.

I can get upset if we pick a player with an early draft pick who is clearly not up to it.
I can be greatly upset if we trade off an early draft pick for another club's hack.

But holding 1 rookie spot out of 6 for a contingency, I can wear that.

Can't believe that people are squawking about Harpo getting the flick. FGS when he first came to the club he was 10kgs overweight & it took him nearly 6 months to lose that weight & get fit. He goes back home at the end of the season, is away for what, about 8 weeks & comes back bigger than Billy Nichols again. He showed by his attitude that he DOES NOT WANT to do the hard work required to play AFL footy.

So the club did him a favour & sent him packing.

Get over it & move on.

sheesh i cant believe we are having a debate about a bloke who is 24 in january has never played an afl game and has many deficiencies in his game . yet people are prepared to cop the excuse of hes a backup. back up for what. if we play him it will show two things. 1 we are in dire trouble 2 they have no idea.

when will people realise the rookie draft is not an extension of your main list. its a nursery where you hopefully uncover diamonds in the rough.its a place where kids go who have potential in certain areas but lack in other areas. its a tool to quickly turn over young players. ive said it before if you get 1 decent foot soldier out of 6 thats okay god lucky if you get 2. sometimes you even uncover very good footballers. bloody hell even silvestors defenders agree hes nothing more than back up.

if they are so worried about fb why didnt they draft one in the nd or why not take one in the trade period if its the now they are worried about. it seems thats all they are worried about the now.

cartledge howat collard silvestor king they are all either mature or they are another clubs garbage we just abuse everything for the sake of a few wins now.

since wallace end of 2004 heres a list of rookies. 04 dragacevic a retread from our own list. foley moore sheesh 2 kids with strong attributes given a go.
2005 thursfield foley. thursfield another raw kid with attributes given a go.
2006 humm howat graham. humm and howat either retread or mature both failures. raw kid in graham long term project ruckman probably will fail has at least got onto the list.
2007 howat again ::) king at 23 short term backup and on the list for the wrong reasons. clingan failure but the exact type we need to funnel thru the rookie system. and graham for his second yr. mature type king while a feel good story is an average footballer at best who has chronic weaknesses in his game if we are to move forward he wont last on the list.howat what were they thinking.i know what if we got some injuries we could play howat instead of giving a kid some games.
2008 cartledge collard howat silvestor do i need to say anything.
the rookie system is being abused and butchered and its about time they woke up to themselves.
Could not agree more.

To me, there is nothing worse than a junior who is ready to play AFL footy and should be playing footy, but can't because he's tied to the rookie list because of no long term injury to another that can get him promoted.

Have you gone mad?
The rookie list should be all about the kid who has a few question marks over him.
Not a 24 year old player that is not going to make it.
As for nothing worse than a kid on the rookie list ready to play but can not because of no injuries so be it.
We get a player for nothing the following year, also i think the rules have changed and a player no can be protomed at anytime.

Not that I know of, but I'm always open to feedback.

Generally that is the principle that I've agreed with earlier.
However, the current drafting system does allow for a "Silvester" contigency to occur as an exception.

As for nothing worse than a kid on the rookie list ready to play but can not because of no injuries (,) so be it.

I believe the drafting system is continually evolving. It is not perfect, and there will be further major amendments next year.

I believe that rule, for one rookie only from each rookie list, is still yet to be "enacted". It was still yet to be passed as of Monday week ago. It may have been passed since then.

So does this mean Polak goes to the long term injury list and Silvester gets elevated?

We could have arranged things much better than this outcome with more clarity.
Agree

Not necessarily General. Polak is on the LTI list, meaning we can elevate ANY rookie to replace him, or none at all.

I'd save it for now, and let the rookies fight it out for the spot until the NAB Cup.

But Silvester certainly would be a like for like replacement.
