Thompson, Hislop or Mcmahon?

LOL, we finally get two big bodied mongrel inside mids and people want to turn them into flankers :hihi

Well said, he of the cockshell.

Jordy. As much as he frustrates us, he is probably a perfect player for a back flank. He is a great runner, a good kick, can push forward and kick goals. However he is a real barometer for the team. Whe he is doing well so is the team, when the team is playing terrible footy, it is almost impossible to find him.

Hislop and Thompson are inside midfielders.

Every team needs a variety of player types and we need a player like Jordy as much as we need some hard a**e midfielders.

Had a good chat to a Bombers supporter on the weekend and he was a massive fan of Hislop and very disappointed to lose him. Thinks we have done extremely well to get him.
Like I said McMahon is the new Tivendale, total front runner, looks like a million bucks when the team is doing well, but when they're not you'd swear he was playing for the opposition when you do happen to see him.

Can we get one thing straight - in 2008 McMahon performed just as good in losing teams as he did in winning teams.

He was often one of the ones providing a spark and running hard when we were down.

It is grossly unfair to make assumptions that because he's a skinny flanker that is automatically means he is a frontrunner.

I've paid special attention to this throughout the year (with and without looking at stats), so I am sure I am right.

Jordy is no frontrunner.

Don't want to turn this into a bag Jordy session, but his confidence also appears to be whisper thin. If he starts bad he really struggles to turn his game around. The game v Melbourne at Telsta Dome was a classic. He started badly and had what could be only described as a *smile* of a night.

That said, if the team is playing well and all players doing their job, Jordy is a very important player running of half back.

Regardless of whether Jordy is having a good game or not, no one can dispute that he finds the football!

Players like D.Wells go missing altogether when not on song unlike Jordy and Bling who at least find the pill!!!

Give Jordy a break...

Jordan is one of the quicker run and carriers in the afl and he has a good kick on him as well. With a few more kilos of muscle, Jordy could do alot more damage with the tackling side of his game ie we need someone of his pace to run blokes down as well.

Still not sold on Tambling as a half-back flanker. Still think he has maturing to do and can be a very good midfielder. I'd hate to see him end up on the HBF permanently.

McMahon needs to get the error rate down. As mentioned he is quick and has a penetrating kick. He's never going to be a tight player and a strong tackler and nor do I think we should try and make him into one. He doesn't have the build. If we're not interested in one of our back 6 making play and creating then he shouldn't be in the backline at all.

Ironic as mentioned that we pick up 2 hard-hitting and well built mid-fielders and we are asking which one should be out HBFer. I think Connors could play very well there personally. And agree with White as another option.

Suprised by the mentioning of Connors for HBF by a couple. I know he played there at Coburg a fair bit but all options considered, I see him more taking over Nathan Brown's role as a midfielder/forward. Got a lot of tricks that boy, too many for a HBF others can play better anyway.

He also has one of the best kicks on our list ! whether or not he has the aerobic capactity for that type of role i dont know ? To think Morton, Connors, Brown in the forward line is pretty amazing really.

Fair enough comment DD. He does have plenty of offensive tricks.
Don't really see Dan at HB over the whole journey but would like to see his game rounded out there a little next season in what really will be another development season for him.
I'd like Dan to become a gun mid eventually. Not he's got the stamina for it but we'll see.

The question then is why did he play that position so much at Coburg? I think he's yet to show that he does have the stamina to play in the middle. Whether that's lack of match fitness due to interrupted pre-seasons (and seasons) I dont know. Probably would make a top forward but he could be a very dangerous player making the play off a half back flank. It would be a great bonus if he improved and matured enough to become another midfielder.

I loathe the way Mcmahon goes about his football but agree that he should be on a back flank. The others need to be in traffic.

Quick question, do we have some one who can play that rebounding role off half back if Jordy pulls a 'tash muscle?

Danny Meyer would have been a great choice. ::) :P

I 'spose Chris Newman, Andrew Raines, JON, Alex Rance, Jordan McMahon, Richard Tambling would all be considered.

If we want him to turn out to be more than another wasted high draft pick, Rance needs to get a gig off HBF this year IMO. Good spot to ease him into the side for the longer term.

This is why I was so happy to see he was working so hard, so early this pre-season. I think he more played at HBF at Coburg due to it being the limit of his cardio capabilities is all.

I think as he develops, depending on match ups, we could see Moore on a flank more (no pun intended) also and alternate with White between back flank and back pocket depending on match ups. Then you have Tambling on the other side as a monte at the moment.

Rance maybe in first year or two as he gets some bulk, see him as being a CHB hopefully. Newman can do it but best used elsewhere I personally think. Raines I have no idea where he is going to play if he can come back, I think his good year was a bit Jason Cloke, not sure he is a back flanker. JON..would wouldn't be happy if he coudl develop and contribute in our 22 anywhere? LOL. Would be good there if he can develop, I prefer tall back flankers.
