Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

No, brother. That address is a nightmare. I don't know why I chose it. ;D

I think the Plastered case has been heard and thrown out. Can't gallop. Typical Victoria Derby winner. (Elvis was atypical.) Maybe he's a two-miler. Just very average at everything else.

The other thing about the CC is that Mummify was probably going to win it but for sustaining a sesamoid injury. His performance this year is a good way of measuring the class drop betwen 2004 and 2005. He was beaten fourteen lengths last year. Fourteen might be a bit of an exaggeration. But I reckon Elvestrom would have beaten that field pretty convincingly with say, 58kg.

The track was very good. The times suggested lightning fast inspite of a flattering penetrometer reading. All the 1100m races were run in under 1:03. I'm not at all surprised there was a casualty. I'm sure Freedman had his worries BEFORE the race.

If the club upgrades the track to fast, connections can scratch their horses just as if it were downgraded from slow to heavy. I wonder if they really thought that was a good track.

I did all my form for fast to "concrete". It makes sense that the Japanese runner did well (although anything but a disgraceful ride would have been a freak of probability).

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I've sent it again to that crappy address, Dyer'ere!
Great round-up of the races.
Eye Popper covered so much extra ground......imagine what he would have done with Damien Oliver, Danny Nikolic, Nash Rawiller, in fact any top Melbourne rider on him.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I had an each way on Eye Popper. My only collect on the day. :-\ I also liked Fell but Mr. Crystal was too slow putting it on. :bash

Btw does anyone use Betfair?? Apparently the odds are heaps better than the TAB.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I'm no betting expert either Crystal so don't know much about Betfair. I had 2 bets on the weekend for two successes. On Friday night I put a $1 box trifecta on the dogs, I guessed the numbers 1,2 and 5, and it won and paid $86 and I backed Pendragon for a win on CC day.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

For a modest lady who knows nothing about anything (!!!!!????) you did very well indeed, Rosy and you run a tight, excellent site here.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

:clap :clap Great stuff Rosy!! I'll be asking you for the numbers next Sat!!

I don't usually don't bet either Blood but when I do its no more than $2.50 a race.

We had some friends over for the Caulfield and ended up on Betfair. Its like a liquid market where punters can place a bid/offer on any race and get hit from anyone around the world. After a few drinks and lucky runs, we ended up racing all over the place!! Its easy to see how people get hooked. >:D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Crystal, one of the proudest feats in my long life is not getting tangled up in betting, even though I worked at the races for 42 years, going to city and country meetings and meeting so many owners, trainers and jockeys it's surprising I didn't catch the bug. But I'm as keen on picking winners and following the game as much as anybody.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Wow Blood, that's impressive!! Especially as you no doubt would have had a lot of good mail over the years. Good for you!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Thanks Crystal. I don't think it was so much strength of character, but fear of losing money! By the way, you and Rosy keep an eye on Pirate Island next time he runs. The race was too short for him last Saturday.

That good jockey Kerrin McEvoy has been engaged to ride Leica Falcon in the Melbourne Cup this morning. Nice one.

That's an interesting one blood with Godolphin's challengers fading fast i'd say they'd only have one entrant in the Cup with Dettori to ride it's freed up McEvoy. I'm not sure about Williams as a tactical rider, it does sound stupid seeing as though he's one two Group 1's but in small and big fields he often comes unstuck. McEvoy has been there and done that in regards to the Melb Cup so it does seem a smart move. There are numerous good jockeys in Melbourne so why you'd even bother bringing a jockey in who sits 4 wide is beyond me, although i'm speaking through my pocket as I was on Eye-Popper.

Godolphin won't have any runners. Thye've pulled the pin and are headed home.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

With one of our talented jockeys aboard, Eye Popper would take beating in any long-distance race. When will they wake up?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Kieran Fallon may come out to ride Carte Diamond. Wonder how that affects his reporting conditions?

Fujita came back on Saturday expecting a blast. It'll be in the back of his mind. Also Eye Popper's camp don't speak much English so they're better off with Fujita. Having said that, who would you put on? Most senior Australian jockeys either had a mount or were out suspended. Bit much made of the international v. local jockey debate I reckon.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I don't know the riders who have engagements in the Melbourne Cup already, but blokes like Vlad Duric for instance know their way around better than the overseas bunch.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Ya gotta laugh.....

My dear ol' dad is 82 next January and he reckons he has got the heaviest dollar in Australia.

He has for years loved his horse racing systems - devising them - buying some - generally fiddling about with systems to find those elusive winners regularly.

Well I thought I would purchase a system for him and I tried it for 5 weeks prior to giving it too him - in that five weeks I built a bank from $200 to $1,310 - knowing that it worked I let him in on the system.

We have played it together now for 6 weeks and have had three collects from 17 starters.

My ol' man reckons his dollar is that heavy it slows 'em down..... :hihi

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Anyone interested in backing Eye Popper in the Cup should at least be confident of it running the trip - he covered two miles easily on Saturday. Problem is he may have to go three miles on Cup Day as Flemington is wider than Caulfield!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

If they popped a Victorian (or Sydney) rider on Eye Popper he'd be a certainty to run first or second in the Melbourne Cup, depending on Makybe Diva. Don't you agree?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I reckon if McEvoy (the best distance rider in Australia prior to his departure and the best apprentice since Paddy Payne in his day IMO ) can find his Aussie form quickly, he'll steer Leica Falcon home.

The change of Craig Williams off Leica Falcon does undermine my earlier assertion that he was riding to instructions. He had the horse in an impossible position and should have been investigated. We need to know.

They could cut that three miles to 4600m if only they'd put Smullen on. ;D

The weight of money, eh, RT? Is he betting in sovs? I do. :hihi

Is Fallon on parole, Ready? He was in some strife. Did they put him away? He might be the man to replace Lester Piggott in that old joke. ;D
