Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Thanks, Ready. I already read that, didn't I?

I remember why I've got him filed under "uncertain". The Falcon has not got a start yet. Hmmmm...

Could he ride the quinella? ;D

RT,

Struggs is away so he may have to abstain - I'm not sure when he's back. Perhaps give it to 5ish Friday arvo.

Bugger!
Can you get in contact with him - SMS or something like that - to find out if he can take his turn?

Yep, I can do that.  I'll keep you informed.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Pardon me but if Struggs can't front, would this be a good time to audition a newcomer?

Just a thought.

Ready, Gypsy, Blood, Frahlee... ?? Sorry if I've forgotten other names. :-[

Maybe we name a list of emergencies?

What doesn't occur to most of us, me included, is that these spots are much coveted by those who don't get a gig.

Those of us who have performed so abysmally can see the irony. :devilangel

50s On A Jeune with Eskander for the Cup. 30s with Sportsbet. Patience, me cobbers. 8)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Just saw the replay of the Geelong Cup - runs of the race - the winner On a Juene 3 wide all the way and still came home hard and Mr Celebrity last at the turn went via the cape and stormed home to be within a neck of the winner for 4th. If I was the owner of Mr Celebrity the jockey would have such a sore arse from the kickin' I'd give him he would not be able to sit down for a week. Dead-set how wide was he on the turn?

Gallant Guru looked impressive in the Classic too - keep an eye on it in the city!

Dyer'ere - new blood might not be a bad idea - can't go any worse than we have all been going - what do you other members think?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

What do ya think of my On A Jeune now, RT? My brother, a devout student, assures me it was a two-miler's run.

He can gallop and now a qualified 5yo. Have a look at last year's Melbourne Cup tape if you can, bro.

If Leica Falcon misses a start...

If not I'll get the tri. :thumbsup

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

To move from the specific to the general...

A punter can be in only four states-

  • Racing well with luck.
  • Racing well without luck.
  • Racing badly with luck.
  • Racing badly without luck.

Like most punting situations it seems to me that there are applications in life. :don't know

For you Betfair afficianados:

Racing Victoria is worried about 1) Integrity and 2) Betfair and Kieran Fallon is possibly coming out to ride Carte Diamond :o ;D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Just tossing in a couple of thoughts as I wait for breakfast to arrive (come on, Marg)! Carte Diamond is very good, obviously, but would be a much better chance if an Australian rider took the mount, not Mr.Fallon. And as for unlucky runners, certainties beaten. Has anyone noticed how many times horses can be extremely unlucky in a race but don't win next time? Some are even prone to be "unlucky" nearly every start but still don't salute the judge. This doesn't mean Mr.Celebrity should have gone very close to taking out the Geelong Cup though.

I read in this morning's paper that he was declared a non-runner due to a barrier problem. That makes it an even bigger effort - how far should he have won by?

But I do agree horses that get checked or find trouble in a race make a habit out it and always seem to be in the stewards reports - always best to steer clear of such horses IMO.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I'm off as of this evening for a short break. Members Car Park at Cox Plate, then a few days playing with the trout :)

May I take this opportunity to wish all our PRE punters a successful Cox Plate and Derby Day.

I shall return to prognosticating, pontificating, and ruminating on Cup eve.

GO MAKYBE :clap

GO PRE PUNTERS CLUB :clap

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

have a look at the link below JD, On a jeune currently 42nd in order of entry.
Handicapper reckons he prob wont get a penalty for yesterdays win so dont go too hard.................JUST YET  ;D

No probs adding punters to the Club, so long as they do there initiation   :nailbiting  :boxing   :rotfl

we could easy have say 10 punters or more & just take turns as a duo as we are now.

& Dont worry about Fallon either Blood, he CAN ride, clearly the best in europe IMO.

Got 4 winners up for me at the Epsom Derby the year I was there ( Kris Kin won from memory)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Geelong Cup, generally speaking a bunch of plodders. In my humble opinion, you only take Geelong Cup form on board for the MC if a horse wins by a mile, ah la Media Puzzle, which I pencilled in for the Melbourne Cup after he won it by 10 or 12 lengths. There were some other so-called MC chances in that race too. (First MC winner I’ve ever backed). On A Jeune, old plodder.

Mr Celebrity on the other hand, I didn’t see the race, but if he face-planted and missed the start, he could be one to watch.

The whole integrity line is a smokescreen put up by RV to ensure they don't lose money or control.  IN fact, Betfair betting is far more traceable than any other sort and English racing is now thriving after some early hiccoughs.

RV know that once serious, and even rank and file punters work out the percentage returns are far greater on Betfair, it will increase in popularity, thus taking profits away from the TAB.  For example, if a horses correct return should be $1.99, the TAB will round it down to $1.90! - taking even more off the top of the original 15% take.  Betfair will basically bet at any value that someone is prepared to offer.  The English races regularly turnover $1m + per race, if BEtfair can get a licence in Aust and thus advertise, Aust racing will ultimately boom in similar fashion.

With Packer behind it, I hope the Tasmanian Goverment holds their nerve and grants the licence.
