Diabolical day for jb. Barely a winner all day. Looking forward to Flemington to get away from Death Valley. Didn't back it but all kudos to MD. Champion. Will prob win the Cup as well. Should be a few kockeys looking for alternate careers after the Plate.

Roger, jb. G.Boss and G.Childs really stood out. The rest should be riding on the backs of dodgem cars.

If Munce puts his horse in a sweet spot you know all the bad ones were taken. If he doesn't go too early, the run wasn't there at the time. ;D A gem of a ride.

King's riding on the day was just awful and he looked good compared to Coleman, Johns and their pals.

The only consolation to be drawn from the Plate was the the champion mare kicked their heads in. Nice shooting, mainlandy.

Bad luck on the dub, lads. The second leg was a *smile* race. Better to set fire to your money than bet in it. Umbula. What a a joke. It was funny to see the three gay deceivers fighting it out over the final 300. I thought they might all turn around and start running the other way. ;D

I have to admit that this race got me out of the poo! I look at the odds I need to get and those offered by IASbet and the ACTTAB and only take those horses where I can get the odds I want - Perlin and Umbula were the only two in this race -

Melb Race 9
1 Perlin $2.40
7 Kindjhal $7.00
4 Umbula $10.00
9 Sarrera $10.00

I dropped Perlin because I felt the distance was against him and also his poor last start. I then backed Umbula straight out and had it as a Quinella stand out with horses that needed to win to get into the MC. Kindjhal, Sarrera. I then added Bazelle as she needed to show form for Tuesday week and Soi Cowboy as the lightly raced roughie.

You know the result Umbula pays $9.30 and the quinella pays $63.40 and I am out of the *smile* for the day.

So to me it was the best race on the program.

From a MC viewpoint - Bazelle raced like a two miler IMO - Kindjhal will not go passed horses once he ranges up to them (Hayes has his work cut out here but he is a very good trainer - look for a solution from him for Kindjhal) - and Umbula has to be a question mark over the two miles but being a grinding type of one paced stayer could be a surprise.

The MC for me is looking like Makybe Diva (if she runs), Railings, Eye Opener, Bazelle and maybe Kindjhal, Umbala, On a Juene. Mr Celebrity might be an inclusion depending on his Hotham Hcp run.

I am warming to Gallant Guru in the Derby - its Geelong Classic win (Old Derby Prelude Race) was very good and it is under the radar IMO.

Question -

Next Saturdays Distance Race was originally known as the Hotham Handicap! 49 years ago the running of the Hotham Handicap was written into Australian Turf History books! Why?

I cheated so won't answer. I bet our own Mr Trivia, Ready, has the answer stored away in his head.

Very interesting result Remote. ;)

Got to the top of the class - were you at the track that day Blood 17? It must have been exciting and bewildering at the same time!.....

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

The Cup is as open as the Sydney Heads IMO. Makybe Diva has to carry 58kilos if she does run which I think is just two much of an ask, so I believe she won't run. She's already won two and the Sandown Classic over 2400 at WFA seems a much better option, but who knows, I just think it'll gut her as she'd had enough at the line on Saturday and 2040 metres is the furthest she's ran this campaign unlike the Caulfield Cup over 2400 the previous two years. Did Kindjhal wear blinkers on the weekend? A gear change might do the trick if he didn't, it worked wonders with Jeune he won the cup at 30-1 first time in pacifiers.

Plastered is one horse that has me stumped, he is now running in the Mackinnon and if he does well will race in the Cup. He won't win the Mackinnon but if i was riding him i'd drop him out the back and let him run home at his own pace. If he runs in the top 8 i'd be happy to back him in the Cup.

Soi Cowboy ran on ok and if he strikes a dry track on Saturday in the SAAB he'll run well. The Derby I think Shotgun Saxon will run well he was gassed in the Geelong Classic yet ran third which shows me he will grind out the 2500. Power of Destiny was favourite in the Geelong race and led and got beat 20 lengths so it shows how well Shotgun Saxon ran.  The track on Saturday was a bit funny later in the day when the rain came so you could forget the form in the last few races.

I'm licking my wounds for the week until Derby day after dropping a substantial amount on Armiger in the Northam Cup yesterday looked home for all money and died on the run to just get beat ahhhhh well that's racing take the good with the bad and bounce back bigger and better next week.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Yeah, not a lot there.

Info for Crazy Phase, Kathy O'Hara is suspended from 27 October until 4 November, ie covering Derby Day. Who gets the ride now?

Has anyone heard any news about Super Elegant? Taken to the vet hospital was the last I heard.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Haven't heard about Super Elegant.
Now that my fav. Charnwood Green is struggling for form, I like Graphical, Quintanella and Pure Silence in the Werribee Cup.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Just a battling day on sat the leysy,

didnt head to the track so just had a few little bets at home, potted the right horses in the plate ie xcellent, gods own & hotel grand....but still couldnt manage a decent collect, had fields of O e/w at 16's as well as the Lad     :'(..............what a terrible ride, was caught absol napping when the sprint went on, & even though had fastest last 200 if race had no hope of getting near Makybe.......not too sure about her being gutted on the line Coggs, she looked to still be travellin alright to me despite being 7 wide from the 800, every other horse that went at that stage had put up the white flag long ago.

cheers for the heads up on O'Hara Ready, that news might have just doubled my bet...,. ;D

Johans is an acceptor too guys,  & she will be a price....................i'm getting nervous already.........................could this be her day....... :nailbiting

have a look at the early acceptors below ladies & gents, it really is clearly the best days racing of the year.

any other players headin to Flem this sat by the way, Leysy is there with bells on.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

My little horse (Follow the Till) from the Smerdon stable had a nice win last friday, PREnders. A 2Y0 maiden down at Ballarat. The official winning margin was 8 lengths... she wasn't wipped in the straight. Casey Rawiller has labelled it the fastest horse out of the barriers she has ridden on... mind you she doesn't exactly get to ride a lot of champions down the country or in work for Aquanita. It is still a nice wrap though. She is a tiny little thing, only weighs 415 kgs.

She is off to the Mayribinong. Look out I Got Chills! ;D

Dominated again at the Valley... had Fields of Omagh and Lords a Leaping going for a lot of money... both slaughtered by S.King. What was I thinking? I had to stand with the bloke for 10 minutes today. Every time he opened his mouth I just wanted to :bash. I managed to keep my 8). He doesn't need a beating ... if he was anymore terrified he wouldn't be able to walk out his front door.

Anywho...

How about the Diva? She absolutely killed them... I'd love to see her win her third successive Cup. I think the main danger is Vinnie Roe... if we get a wet track it will be a magnificent battle.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Fields of Omagh should run in the Mackinnon. He would kill that rubbish. Activation has been very impressive.

I'm not very impressed with the Salinger field. Looks like a bunch of mongrels to me.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Mooney Valley is officially sacked as a venue.
I hate that joint,it has far too much of my dough inside it.

I got slaughtered as per usual. At least I went broke in the most beautiful beer garden under the sun,The Reef in Noosa........superb joint.Great views inside and out.

Im back for the Derby and to my favorite track so here's hoping for the same luck as last years clean-up.
