Not sure Gypsy, I reckon Cape of Good Hope looks a good thing a first glance. Very talented horse.

Was going to reply the same thing jb, COGH is a very talented horse and is sure to be in the finish. Or is it my pocket talking after I backed him when he won at Mooney Valley in a canter. Looks like a field he can handle.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

I always like the Salinger. Even the weaker years give us a great contest.

That Myer Classic is as handy a field of mares as I can recall seeing. I hope they run Lotteria and Hollow Bullet in it. You'll get your price then, Bryza. A big even field and a good to hot pace might be just the thing for your little mare. Of course getting the carnie off is a big help too. It'd be real nice to find McEvoy aboard.

If I wanted to bet on the Derby on a horse that is not either of the favourites, I'd get on tonight. Can't see one I like.

jd, surely you are not suggesting we back HB in anything it runs in. Hasn't come up, nor has any of the Spring 3yo fillies from last year. HB's wins in Sydney in the Autumn must have been an aberration. Lotteria v Hollow Bullet, I'd take the 10's on.

Barely a Moment targetted more for the Emirates Stakes from what DAH has said.

The Romany doesn't rate Cape of Good Hope because he's a Hong Kong horse. I reckon won here in the autumn and can do it again.

jd, surely you are not suggesting we back HB in anything it runs in. Hasn't come up, nor has any of the Spring 3yo fillies from last year. HB's wins in Sydney in the Autumn must have been an aberration. Lotteria v Hollow Bullet, I'd take the 10's on.

I give her some chance in mares company. I want her to run for the depth. Depending on jovkeys and the final numbers in the field, I'm highly likely to lay Lotteria. She's the one I really want in. A lovely mare that took the run normally reserved for 3yos in the Cox Plate.

Filed size, content and jockeys the crititical. And of course, for the best racing we want a dry track.

The Melbourne fillies beaten by Hollow Bullet were, to my mind, cats. I've laid em all this season. The then Sydney fillies are stars and she beat them fair and square at the time. She MAY return to female company, a shorter trip and a dry track on the weekend. (IMO she should.) How's her form then? Her only run on a dry track at a mile as an adult was a cracker.

Hollow Bullet's formguide has only two runs in it this season. (Top run.) Craiglee and Caulfield Cup. (Can't stay at all.) I don't think it's the Autumn form that's aberrant.

Lotteria types are my absolute favourite. The punters love her at the short prices and she keeps finding one better.

The one I'm saying I'm considering is Johann's Toy now that O'Hara is off. Not Hollow Bullet.* I want a rider. I don't give a dodgem where she draws.

*I sack em quick usually, jb. HB had every chance in the CC. Not suited to an early bustle but a low class run.

The horse that is massive overs for the MC ATM is Xcellent. He will certainly stay the 3200 IMO and I blame his weakening run in the Plate more on failing to handle the track condition than the crazy ride and a lack of stamina. (Check his breeding for stamina!)

He has two spectacular failures in his short career, each on wet tracks. All his dry track runs are explosive wins. They are threatening us with dry weather until Derby Day. In a year bereft of high class 4yos the Kiwi might just be the one that got under our guards. 20s ATM. I'll get some of that at the critical moment.

If it is going to rain, I'll get into Vinnie Roe. Even with Smullen on it'll win, IMO.

Both my roughies are close to a start. Smith, FWIW, is saying Plastered won't come up and I reckon they'd be better suited to mares with HB. The favourite Makybe, may not even run.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Carte Diamond was seriously injured in a track mishap this morning. The stirrup iron broke or became loose, the jockey was tossed off and the horse crashed through a rail, cutting his hind leg badly.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Latest reports, Carte Diamond has no hope of running in the Melbourne Cup. Plastered didn't pass the vet. examination, so it's a stalemate there too.

I don't rate Hong Kong horses but Cape of Good Hope has proved himself in Australia. He annihilated them in the Timbercorp in February and wasn't far away form Fastnet Rock and Alinghi in the Lightning. He looks the one to beat... I must admit, I didn't see him when I was glancing over the nominations.

I have a high opinion of All Bar One and I will probably back him in the Salinger.

Anyone off to the track on Saturday?

isn't it the first two placegetters qualify for the Cup.
Will be going Saturday doing some damage to the bookies!!!

I think you may find Graphical and Soi Cowboy doing something good very soon.

Soi Cowboy had his chance to do something, then he went down to ararat and lost in a class 4. Please stop wasting peoples time and posting jibberish like this.

Blood's devotion to this thread is second to none. He keeps us all up to date with the latest racing news... eg. Carte Diamond out of the cup and etc...

I believe it is you, Jestajewel, who is wasting the time of PREnders.

4th in a Victoria Derby. 4th in a Moonee Valley Cup. Must have some ability.

I hope he puts it all together soon, I keep losing my money on him.

Sorry jd. We are going to have to disagree again. HB's Craiglee run was overated, it was stopping 50 from home. Track conditions seem a convenient excuse, CC was just aweful.

Put Xcellent in the overrated category as well, has never beaten anything of quality. Who was that 12yo it beat in NZ last start? Happy to lay at any odds.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

Oh & on this Derby thats apparently run this saturday, Leysy's really starting to warm towards one in the race. The top three in betting ie Pendragon, Headturner & Duelled only had very SLOW races last time which were just a sprint home. Although the former two horses did run home in quick time they were entitled to.

They all must be queries to run the distance & if the speed is genuine have enough left for there sprint at the end.

There is a  horse in the race that seems to have got under everyones guard, He has been taken along quietly over in SA. But this horse is bred too & will stay stay stay.

His sire Montjeu is an english derby winner & he has sired some exceptional young stayers in europe including this years derby winner Motivator. On his dams side he is a half brother to the derby placegetter Gold Guru.

He has won four on the bounce culminating in his win in the Geelong classic which even on a quick track of 2.14.41 is very very good, it appears certain he will get the distance where a lot of his rivals may not & looks a cracking bet at around $8.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

In reply to Jesta Jewel's comment about me speaking jibberish (sp), I thought Soi Cowboy was a certainty to improve on that Moonee Valley Cup effort. He stays well, has been patiently treated and should pick up a distance race towards the end of the spring season. Well, I think so anyway.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing

To bring Jesta Jewel up to date, Soi Cowboy ran 4th at Benalla after that Ararat Class 4 run he mentioned. In each start he's gone to longer distances and his Moonee Valley run was pretty good in my book.
