Tiger rejects doing OK elsewhere

l will be interested to see if geelong offer a new contract to ottens will they offer him what he is worth or still pay him what he is potentially worth

Ottens is an interesting one. Bias aside because he is a sook and did the dirty on Richmond, he has been pretty solid for the Cats. With King well past his best, Mooney a 50/50 to play in any given week and with the jury out on Blake; Ottens will likely be a much required player at Geelong.

I'd actually have him back at Tigerland for the right price; is a far better proposition than Knobel. And Rosy may regain some value in her jumper.

Happy to report Marty Mcgrath had a good 2005 in the Templestowe 2nds.....AFL - 3rd Divvy EFL...wat a fall from grace that was!
He signed with Tatura in the GVFL a the start of this season, but im not sure if he has played.

I believe he did part of the 2006 preseason at the Burgers. Don;t know what happened to him though.

Not that I want any of them back but it is still interesting:-

Ottens (Cats)
Holland (Demons)
Fiora(Saints)
Torney(Crows)

Any others?

Funny some people keep posting that none of our players would get a game elsewhere and here are some of them finals bound for their new teams.

If you take the opposite view and say what if Richo went to a real good side would he kick over 100 goals? Of course! Players like Fiora and Holland are average players but because their teams are stronger and have depth and class, they are performing well. Its funny if there are ample players supporting you, your performance sky rockets when there is no pressure.

wouldn't call Ottens and Torney rejects. As for actual tiger rejects doing well elsewhere, hA HA HA

Interesting..... what would you call them then Snake?

I nearly cried when Stuart Maxfield left the club at the end of 95.....found it difficult to watch him play wearing red and white!

Would Matthew Clarke have been a handy ruckman during the ninties?? I think he would have.

Good players with currency who we gave up to achieve a good trade.

I'm not going to check but i don't remember the last time we were down to just four ex tigers at other clubs.

and all four (torney, Holland, fiora and ottens) were traded

usually we have had other clubs picking up a delisted player or two.

I suppose most of our recent delistings have been discarded once before

I thought the point of this thread is that there are so few tiger players who ever actually play ok after being discarded by us. Proven player swaps like Maxfield/*smile* aside (though I can't think of another of trade of this type).

The fact that the vast majority of our discards also play badly elsewhere is indicative I think of our ladder position and recruiting capability over the last 20 years. We should, if we can manage it, be in the position of choosing between players of AFL standard and having other sides play our players for five years or more eg. West Coast whose discards can often actually play the game and who can feel a little unlucky in not getting a game. Look statistically on track record far more of our discards sink never to be seen again regardless of whether they are picked up by another afl side or not. On stats alone you wouldn't touch our discards with anything other than the proverbial ten foot pole.

As for Murphy he was a squib for RFC and I noted with satisfaction his squibbing at Carlton and Essendon as well - wasn't sorry to see the guy go.

Don't forget Geelong (Murphy).
