some good points raised regarding stats
Stats have been a method of measurement of a players individual performance for some time, hence its use today - but they are evolving into result driven stats that compare the players performance to that of their direct opponent - like the following:

a recent article showed how TW and RFC and other clubs were using stats based on a players individual stats compared to his opponent (ie)
Chaffey 4K 5HB 3Mks 0Goals whilst his opponent had 8K 8Hb 5Mk & 3 goals during the 10 min chaffey played on him (example only)
although Chaffey may end up with 30 possessions his direct opponents may end up with more combined possessions and goals kicked on him.

The reverse could be that the time Chaffey spent on player (A) that players output decreased.

The other fact is stats dont tell you when, where and how you got the possession, what you did with it after getting it and how many times you saved, conceded or scored a goal from it

in addition to this stats in the last qtr can be misleading and cheap stats can be obtained after the heat has worn off or the result is known, i think stats in the first 10 minutes of each qtr are worth more than those obtained later when the speed is off and players tire or fitness catches up

is there a stat for how many times i cringe when kellaway *smile* and ray hall get the ball in the backline. or a stat for wrong decision making.

Not sure about Hall, but I have noticed for years that other teams are happy to let Kellaway and Gaspar take first posession from the kickout presumably because they know it is 50:50 after they get it.

Or perhaps they are just good enough to do their job?
Gaspar finished 4th in the J D Medal. Pick on someone else for a change please.

Audible, I presume this means you think Gaspar has good disposal by foot?

If the job gets done, why worry about how pretty it looks.
Was just trying to point out that Gas has had a great year, as evidenced by the JD and his towelling of many so called great full forwards- he even got Charlie votes for his job on Big Bad Barry.

:clap :clap :clap Certain people here can have their stats, love them and think they are the world. Go to a game and see what actually happens not only around the ball but when the ball is out of players zones to see the effectiveness of players. Stats are just that and are mostly irrelevant imo. But keep on your stats program BJ if you wish - when it all washes up it is not the stats you get but what you do with the ball when you get it and what you dont when you dont have the ball.

Not worried about how pretty it looks, its where it goes that matters.

Good player, great season, took down some of the best.  Poor kick.

You are vocal tonight little Duyfken. I think you are exactly right, thats why when I watch Gaspar play the hair stands up on the back of my neck because of what he does with it when he gets it. By the way theres plenty you don't do with the ball when you don't have it.
