Richmond are winless after 11 rounds. The Tigers are often reported as being the worst performed team in a generation. Richmond is maligned for "sacking" coaches and "eating their own".

Richmond has been to hell and back financially, emerging from disaster with the Save Our Skins campaign.

Board Members have come and gone, as have players. Our recruiting has also been critisized.

But on Friday night it can be seen why Richmond, with all that has gone before it, is still there, still going, and should never fade away.

On a cold and drizzly Friday night, with no wins to its name Richmond played Melbourne, also hapless at the halfway mark of the AFL Season.

46, 161 people passed through the turnstiles. It was hard to accurately gauge how many supporters from either club attended, but one thing is sure. Richmond supporters well out numbered those of Melbourne.

I would take a guess and say about 40,000 of those attending the game were Richmond Supporters, with many displaying their colours, with flags or banners, or dressed proudly in yellow and black.

Richmond will rise with such support. With so much dispassion and lack of true members with other teams, they will fade and die, merge or relocate.

With Richmond's membership hovering around 30,000 and support like that shown on Friday night, take a bow Tiger Fans, take a bow.

:clap

Completely agree. We always get called "woodworkers" but if any other team had the record we've had in the past 25 years, they would have gone the way of Fitzroy.

Richmond FC continues to disappoint season after season, yet I think we're extraordinarily optimistic every preseason.

Im glad to be a Richmond supporter and always will be, regardless of how well we do.

hehe Its almost like being stuck in a bad marriage. The day to day is average at best, but there's that love keeping you there regardless of how things are. ;D

Go Tigers!

Wholly agree. It was wonderful to be at the G on Friday evening, and agree with the figures that about 4 to 1 were supporting the Tiges. Other team supporters think we are mad to still attend games, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Putting on my scarf as I get out of the car just lets those around me know that they are attending a Richmond game. The trip home is more enjoyable when we have had a win, so come on guys give us a few more nights like Friday. We loved Friday even more by being able to give it to the odd Melb people around us - one guy continually yelling "break a leg" whenever Browny was near the ball and giving Richo the usual treatment that opposition fans give him. Was good when he finally skulked off, not daring to look at anyone around him.

For this particular game I was lucky enough to be a guest at the MCC members. Had to give up my seat in the RFC members' area though and cough up $27, but it is a great place to see the game. What I did like was No bad language, although the lady Tiger member sitting next to me said "bugger" once, when Richo hit the post. I'm no shrinking violet or goody two shoes but just hate the very bad language some use. Seemed to me there more Tiger members there than Dees. Some of them went off the planet when the Richmond theme song was played about a million times after the game. Jumping up and down, singing, dancing, you name it....and that's what we are all about at Tigerland. Good bad or indifferent the team may be, but we still go on supporting and loving them day in and day out.

That's awful. ::)
Gray you must be in the wrong spot, no bad language from the RFCs around us..... only from the rare opposition fan.

Try standing in the grog squad behind the goals, passion week in week out! it was going off like a frog in a sock last fri nite! After all, its been nearly a year since we could sing, dance and celebrate in the greatest arena in the world!

Tigers bleed yellow and black, i know i am there week in week out, and i love my club. They and the friends i have are my family, and i am so happy to have been able to celebrate the joy of a win!!

GO TIGERS!

I like to guess the crowd figure and 46,000 was a surprise. I thought it was more like mid to high 30's.
Lots of empty seats everywhere.

talk about hoarse. at one stage my BIL had to restrain me from jumping the fence to exterminate the green frogs. Geez they were *smile*.
sadly the RFC supporters immediately in front of us were very very quiet. at one stage they told me to shooosshhh.
for crying down the toilet what did they have for dinner??
can't wait for the saints game. this will really tell us where we are at.

as a proud adelaide based richmond lover,i was suprised to see so many richmond supporters wearing our colours at both the games played in adelaide this year. It's great to walk past a fellow supporter and give a nod of the head and smile. RICHMOND SUPPORTERS UNITED!!!!

Great post Boyanich, other supporters do say we are band wagon but most clubs have supporters who drop off when there team is playing bad, all in all we do stick fat.
Carlton are the worst last year when they played port and freo they got about 16,000.

On friday sitting in the AFL members it was awesome to see the yellow and black right around the stadium, in our area it was like "spot the demon" a few of us there were trying to determine how much support we had around the G compared to Melbourne i thought the spilt overall was about 32-34 thousand Richmond and 12-14 thousand melbourne, 2 of my mates thought the figure was higher for Richmond and suggested the spilt was closer to 36-38 thousand Richmond supporters and less than 10,000 dees supporters maybe i was being a little generous to the dees in my figures, regardless when u looked around the ground and also the noise levels you could easily see 75 to 80% of the crowd was Richmond, its a phenomenal effort from tiger fans considering we hadn’t won a game.
What would it be like if we were entrenched in the 8 or even the top 4, bloody huge!...

Browny may have broken his leg but he in turn broke melbourne's back on fri night.

I happened to have the pleasure of watching the game on Satellite TV with a couple of the most passionate Tiger supporters going around it was pure heaven.

To finally see a Tiger victory
To finally see the opposition look like toilet paper
To finally see our team with their heads held high
To finally see and hear every player and supporter belt out 'we're from Tigerland'

Kruezer, Pick 1, Priority Picks etc dont mean anything compared to that.

Great post boyo, Of all nights ,I had to be at a fund raiser on Friday night , I was so looking forward to singing the song after our first win. Needless to say ,I was nearly hysterical with excitement listening on my radio out the back of the function. Went back inside ,announced a tiger victory and all us tiger fans sang the song. We'll sing it a few more times this year hopefully.
